I am in the process of trying to quit. It's hard but I am not going to give up this time.

My whole family smoked (with me being the exception) and I grew up with clothes, hair, and a home that constantly smelled like smoke. I think that's one main reason I never tried it. Anyway, about 16 years ago my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer, and 8 months later he was dead. It was horrible the way he suffered. Yet even on his deathbed he wanted a cigarrette. After he died, my whole family quit cold turkey. I hate that he had to suffer and die for them to see what they were doing to themselves. Second hand smoke just turns my stomach. I have a dear friend who smokes and is trying to quit- I hope she can before it is too late.

I quit a little over a year ago, cold turkey. I think people can only quit when they get to the point that they don't want to smoke anymore. You have to want to quit, not just feel like you should or have to. I tried quitting before but wasn't successful because I wasn't really ready to quit.

I quit over 15 years ago - after finding out that the cause of all my very fequent sinus infections, was a cigarette allergy! I think what really did it for me, tho was when I had a sinus infection and pnemonia at the same time & I absolutely couldn't smoke. It was very hard to quit, but I did and haven't picked it back up. My friend turns 50 soon & she has vowed to stop smoking on her birthday. She's a recovered drug & alcohol abuser, so I know she has the drive to quit, I just worry that cigarettes are her only vice. I'll do everything I can to help her stop.

I hear from everyone wanting to know how I managed to quit. 2+ Packs a day for 2 years now. Seems if you can just tell yourself that Your doing it for yourself and not anyone else youcan be smart enough to quit. I Had a box of patches when I decided to quit and never needed one of them , they were just there in case I was'nt strong enough! I found I was and could beat it and Did!!!

I have smoked for 30 years and I want to quit, I'm just not sure I am ready enough to do it yet. I enjoy smoking very much and that is the problem.

YES, I SMOKE AND I PLAN TO QUIT WHEN I RUN OUT OF CIGARETTES WHICH SHOULD BE IN ABOUT TWO DAYS. THE HIGHER TAX ON CIGARETTES WOULD MEAN AN ADDITIONAL $11.00 A CARTON AND I CAN NOT AFFORD IT SO, IT'S TIME TO QUIT. ALSO, MAYBE, MY HEALTH WILL IMPROVE.

I've never been a smoker myself but have a very good friend that is. Over the past 20 years she has quit a dozen times to only start up again. I'm sure when she is really ready to quit smoking she will.
