I am the sole breadwinner in my family
it would have been great if they had the option "single" and taking care of self! LOL...since I have no one to compare being a breadwinner to!
My husband is the breadwinner in my family. With that said, if I was to become one he would put on an apron and ask me what would I like for supper or better yet hire a chef.....lol
When my husband was 1st laid off we agreed that he would assume most of the household chores while I continued to work full-time. This gave him time and less pressure to look for work and it suited us both. Three jobs later (laid off multiple times no fault of his) he is now a permanent part-time worker. He does most of the cooking (happily) and jobs around the house during his off time. It is an arrangement we are both very happy with and one that we can absorb financially. I have to admit it did take him a period of time to get over that "I should be the breadwinner" mentality that society imposes on us. I figure the $$ all goes in the same pot so what does it matter how it gets there or from whom.
I am greatful to be a stay at home parent, and not be the main breadwinner. With that said, I work hard on saving money, finding the best deals and using the money he makes wisely on good investments, deals, and I do work part time nannying, coaching softball, and surveys and focus groups. I love finding the best way to stretch the money he earns and coming up with creative ways to make a little extra money. I spent 10 years in customer service in Retail as well as real estate and I am MORE than happy to be at home at this point! =) I do admire the working woman who wears not only the working hat, but the mom hat, and the housework hat as well. Props to them for being able to get it all done!
I have never been the main bread winner, with that said I do work, I am a manager at a Motorcycle/ATV shop. The money I earn is looked at as play money for us to enjoy, and I am perfectly happy with that!
im the only one working right now
I've been the main bread winner in my family for at least 8 years now. My husband was in school and now is just taking on a new job, his salary is still below mine. It has never really been a big issue, all our money goes into the same account and we access it equally, there is never any "yours and mine issues"
