My brother and I came home from school every day by ourselves. We were latch key kids, as were all the other kids we knew. Our parents worked. I would watch my brother and get dinner started so we could eat when my dad came home. It taught us independence and problem solving that has helped us be productive adults. Today's parents are so smothering. It amazes me that they have time to drive their kids to and from school! Why not just send them on the bus so they can interact with their friends. Don't parents want independent children?

With the way life and the world is I just can?t see leaving my kids alone until they are teenagers. But we also live in a pretty big city.

This day & time it just seems safer to wait until they are 10-12 depending on there maturity. But we handled it fine and were much younger. There didnt seem to be as much ti be concerned about then and neighbors were much more involed back then. I guess times change, unfortunately not always for the better. Also I think we are much more aware these days of the dangers and reality of life than then.😔
