I am widowed and have about 6 weeks a year--BUT all of my family lives out of state so I worry about something happening which woud require me to leave my state. So , I use all but a few to save until the last minute..
I actually changed jobs this year, and the worst part is that I lost the 2 weeks I had JUST earned from the last job. SInce I had to get out of that job and I found and got hired for the new job I had to let thoses 2 weeks go......the only reason it hurt a little was because I had worked at the job for 3 years, endured all kinds of abuses and bad sistuations, some amount of racisim, and other rediclious things that are not even worth mentionioning. It was better for me to loose out on two weeks then to loose out on a oppertunity to finally be happy at my place of work!
I'm afraid I'll get sick & need the time so I always save at least a week's worth of time to carry over into the next year. My employer is generous in that I receive 4 weeks of vacation so I don't feel like I'm getting shorted in the vacation time I do use.
I am fortunate enough to home school my 15 year old son who, when I do feel sick helps me a lot around the house and checks on me.
You need more options, my job does not offer vacation days. If I need a day off, I can take it, but I do not get paid for it. Since this was not an option I did not vote.
I have a very stressfully job so I like to take off at least 3 week in the summers just to recoup
I always take a week off to go a vacation with my husband.
I have to save up my PTO time for my maternity leave in January/February! Otherwise, I always use my vacation days. It is MY TIME! :-)
