This is a tricky topic. There seems to be more and more people who are willing to give up information for certain life enhancements like convenience that technology brings to our everyday life. I'm on the fence about this one. I'm sure I've given up information without even knowing it.

I don't like using Facebook to receive a sample or free product if it means allowing a company to gain access to my personal information. My friends and I have difficulty with Facebook anyway. I wish companies would just go back to the "old" way of giving away samples.

Advancement in technology today has made me more cautious when it comes to entering personal information via internet. Although there is a slight paranoia that associates itself to my internet usage, I have to be able to go on about my day, meaning sacrificing some privacy. Since I work odd hours, sometimes the internet is the only way to accomplish my errands. It's really a catch-22 situation.

I am always leery of requests for my personal information and only provide it when it is absolutely necessary. I teach my children the same thing. Very rarely is a there a legitimate need to give your address, age, sex, banking info, etc. Cyber crimes get more sophisticated everyday, we as consumers need to be savvy about protecting ourselves and our families.

I use facebook all the time for freebies and deals. I just don't have anything personal on the account that I use for that so it doesn't matter. I really don't have a problem with national companies because they are really too busy to read everyone's personal details anyway but i do have a problem with small business/local companies. Those I usually don't "like" on facebook.

I guess I'm naive, but I don't know what someone would do with my personal information once they had it? If they know where I live and what I look like, what good will that do them w/out my SS# and/or DOB?
