I never saw the original muppets movie. So I have nothing to compare it to. However, I love this movie. I actually watched it today. We are always singing the songs. Too catchy!

i can't stand the muppets

at random times i have to do the doo doo doo do do do manah manah..lol. its so catchy.. and this was such a cute movie for kids of this generation.

I grew up with the muppets and was expecting a bit more from this movie. I loved the moopets, they were a great addition to the cast. But I wish it included more story with all of the muppets.

My 8 yr old daughter loved this movie and while I thought it was cute/quirky, I was disappointed that it didn't stay true to the old Muppet Movie style that I grew up with. The Man or Muppet scene just made me cringe!! Overall, a good family movie with a feel good ending.

surprisingly cute and funny.

My favorite movie of the 2011 awards season year is "The Muppets". I grew up with the Muppets, and this movie was very true to their appeal from back in the day. I remember wielding my Miss Piggy lunchbox to school and an awesome field trip to see a Muppets exhibit at the local museum. It was an even better excursion than the unexplained elementary school excursion to a brewery, but I digress. My kids, who are more familiar with the "Sesame Street" gang enjoyed the movie as well. There was enough subtle humor for grown ups and slapstick for little ones (or big ones with that sort of sense of humor) to be fun for the whole family. There is a great work scene where everyone pitches in to get ready for "a big show" set to Starship's "We Built This City." I found this a hilarious touch, and my children think it's just a cool song exclusive to the movie. (We own the movie soundtrack and have preordered the film on DVD.) And it is chock full of celebrity cameos. For personal reasons, I really enjoyed the Donald Glover cameo, as I am a huge fan of "Community." But there's a pivotal cameo by Jim Parsons that just about steals the show, in my opinion. The main actors in the movie are wonderful. Amy Adams is a sheer delight, and Jason Segel gives a great performance that really honors his admiration of the Muppets. And, of course, I cannot overlook the Muppets themselves. I was holding back tears as Kermit reflected on the good old days with his long lost pals, who had fallen out of touch. And forget trying to hold back the water works when he sings a duet of "Rainbow Connection" with Miss Piggy that ends up as a group number. Unfortunately, most movie awards do not consider family friendliness or cool cameos as legit award criteria, but the song "Man or Muppet" is up for a Best Original Song Academy Award. The performance of that song in the movie was one of my favorite moments in the flick. The way the Oscar song selections rules and regulations work, there are actually only two songs nominated in the category this year- the other is from "Rio" and was penned by Sergio Mendes and his crew. Yes, THAT Sergio Mendes of 80s lyric fame. Fingers crossed "Man or Muppet" will win with those 50/50 odds. No offense, Sergio.
