This book is really a celebration of all that is fresh, local, and seasonal. Recipes are divided by season: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. There is also an All Seasons section for foods that can be prepared and enjoyed year round. Each seasonal section includes recipes that use the produce that is plentiful that season. For example, the Autumn section includes Kale Potato Soup and Greens in Peanut Sauce. It's a great way to think seasonally when you shop for food and when you plan your meals. The index is organized by key ingredients, so you can look up Broccoli, for example, and see what ideas you can find there. The recipes are straightforward, easy to follow, and don't require an excessive number of ingredients. I love the fact that I can buy produce that is seasonally on sale or just simply looks wonderful and then find lots of ideas for preparing it for my family. When I recently found purple plums discounted at my local farmer's market because they were very ripe, I knew just what I'd do with them: Plum Tart from the Summer section of this cookbook, which I had already made multiple times. It's a wonderful book that will encourage you to think seasonally when you shop and plan your meals.
