*************UPDATE 7:30 AM MONDAY MORNING******************
Some changes overnight on transit: LIRR is operating a limited schedule, NJ Transit backed off and is not operating rail, the MTA is running limited trains that will increase over the course of the day. Our plan remains the same:
1. If you live in Manhattan: Try to get to the office by bus, subway or taxi. If it's looking like a potentially epic journey, work at home. We'll reimburse taxi fees if you need to go that route. The office will open at 10AM.
2. If you live outside Manhattan: Work at home.
Please let me know any questions or concerns.
*************UPDATE 7:30 PM SUNDAY NIGHT******************
I hope everyone had a safe and uneventful tropical storm/hurricane. Here in NJ, we had lots of rain and wind, but seem to have dodged major disaster, but unfortunately not everyone nearby did. We currently have electricity and phone, but no water.
The various transit agencies are being very non-committal about service tomorrow. Of the three agencies that are most important to us (MTA, NJ Transit, LIRR), only NJ Transit (usually the laggard of the bunch) has even committed to a partial rail schedule. MTA Bus seem to be recovering today. The other two agencies are still evaluating the damage and have not made any rail service commitments for tomorrow.
My best guess is that it will be a commuting disaster for anyone outside Manhattan, and the only options in Manhattan may be bus and taxi. I'll post another update tomorrow at 8AM, when I can confirm with the landlord that our building will be open and we may have better information from the transit agencies. For now, here's what we should assume is the plan for 9AM in the office:
1. If you live in Manhattan: Try to get to the office by bus or taxi. If it's looking like a potentially epic journey, work at home. We'll reimburse taxi fees if you need to go that route.
2. If you live outside Manhattan: Unless there's an overnight subway and commuter rail miracle, work at home.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns before then. Our home number is 973.275.9540 if you'd like to reach us tonight.
