I try to use less plastic whenever possible, like taking my own bags to the grocery store. Also, I have a rain barrel to collect water to water my yard.

We bring our own reusable bags when grocery shopping; bring lunch to work using Pyrex glass containers and reusable silverware; carpool to work and work from home couple days a week to reduce carbon footprint use solar panels and geothermal at home to reduce impact on the 'grid' swapped all light bulbs in the house for energy efficient (and turn the lights off when no one's in the room) switched to paperless billing where that option was available reuse and recycle plastic, paper, aluminum and glass compost kitchen scraps eat more meatless meals grow our own culinary herbs (and share with neighbors and co-workers :)) support local farmers by shopping farmers markets (in season) buy 'greener' household cleaners and detergents (Seventh Generation and Method are my fave) and - most importantly, I think - educate our kids on why we make these choices

"Acts of Green" is one of my favorite topics. As an employee of a local municipality, my job involves staying on top of the best ways to decrease our footprint. Whether it is training with the local Department of Natural Resources, reading articles about composting ideas, filling out grants for more recycling bins, or designing fun ways for residents to become involved in Arbor Day - Acts of Green is on my mind!

I use my own bags at stores, have shortened shower and brushing times, and recycle or upcycle everything possible.

Use a glass water bottle at work instead of plastic. Recycle plastic and magazines at home. Use reusable grocery store bags for shopping.
