I like to get and give gift cards. Sometimes I do a creative pun that goes along with the gift card. Then it feels more thoughtful.

Honestly .. I focus on PRESENCE not PRESENTS. What I would give to spend time in the "presence" of departed loved ones. Cherish the gift of time that you have with those special people still living. As far as material gifts, I like gift cards to places I shop or cash. I honestly don't care about gifts, though .. I like spending time with friends/family more than something material. Christmas and all the other holidays have gotten so ridiculously overcommercialized, and the retailers seem to start shoving these down our throats earlier and earlier.
