We surveyed 2,000 SheSpeaks members and only 37% said that they believe that women are supportive of one another. Does that surprise you? Do you agree or disagree? Share your thoughts. We want to know what you think!

Turns out women are not that supportive of each other. I have always been the hero/helper in my family and friends. But as soon as I got sick (with an illness no one understood-not even me), they all started to vanish. All the hype about supporting people with mental health disorders and not stigmatizing them.....well, that doesn't seem to apply in real world scenarios. And p.s. some health conditions can manifest as mental health issues when in fact, they are not. Been on a long lonely journey.

I think instinctively most women feel competitive - consciously or unconsciously - with other other women. Most likely due to their own insecurities - looks, education, "haves" vs "have nots", etc. However, once you find a group of supportive women - you'll NEVER let them go!! I just found mine!!

I really do not find that surprising at all. I love being supportive of other women, but in the past I have seen so many that are full of drama and run their friends down behind their backs. I guess that is why I keep my circle small :( I would rather support than tear down.

That's sad, but not surprising.

I was in an assumption that women are in general supportive to each other. This is a surprise to me.

I don't find this very shocking. Except for a few select causes, many women are competitive and trying to get ahead, even if that means stepping on other women. I have experienced many women being sarcastic or "catty" for reasons that are unknown to me. But I just chalk that up to being a female (emotional roller coaster) most of the time. Although there are a select few women I have known who are extremely supportive to other women. But as a whole, I would say I have noticed too many women tearing each other down to make themselves feel better. It is a sad, vicious cycle. I wish women would come together and learn to love each other more. To support each other even when we are all very different from one another. It certainly would make life easier and more enjoyable.

It is a problem that i think we need to address as women and get to the root of the issue. I believe it starts within and how women view themselves. Women can be their own worst enemy and greater confidence in oneself is the foundation for having the ability to support each other.

I'm not surprised at all. I've dealt with so many conniving, under-handed and snake-like women, it's disheartening. I try to help my friends out at least and help other people when I can. Helping people sometimes ends up backfiring too. When I see how some of these other moms act, it's no surprise there is a bullying epidemic. We SHOULD be empowering one another.
