How do you do to get your child to behave or punish your child for doing something wrong multiple times?

Our Time Outs are not called Time Outs. We have "Think About It" chairs. They are to sit and think about what they did, and come up with ways not to do it again. Sometimes they put themselves in it, lol. And sometimes they sit there when they need to talk. I've even sat in it, so they can learn we all need cool down moments, or a quiet moment just to think. We also have little mailboxes on the outside of everyone's bedroom door and we leave notes to each other. For example: One brother will write a quick I'm sorry note. Or we will write little notes to them for no reason.

I have given my children time out, but prior to putting them in time out, I explain what they did and why it was wrong. I learned not to put them in time out for long periods of time. If the child is two, then the time out should not be more than two minutes and so on. When my kids got older, I had them to explain to me why they thought what they were doing was wrong. This helped them to process information and make good decisions.

I really do think timeout works best but you have to stick with it and not cave in.. I'm pretty bad about giving in and that's not good..
