What do you think is the right age for a cell phone. The phone in question would have have all available restrictions, with all parental controls possible, coupled in house restrictions and terms of use.

Well I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I received my first phone as a freshmen. I did some clubs and sports after school so if your child is as well, freshmen year is the best way to go :) Having a phone made it a little less stressful to me because I knew if I really needed her, my Mom was only a call away.

I gave my sons cell phones in Junior High. It was more out of necessity rather then them asking if they could have one. They started joining clubs, sports and bands. They were always needing to be picked up from somewhere. But, they didn't have texting unitl highschool and I didn't let them have a smart phone until they were working and could pay for the data plan.

I got my girls a phone once they became active in school sports that required them to travel, that way on case of an emergency or if travel plans changed I could be contacted. I also only allow them to have their phones after homework is done and between the hours of 3-7pm.

Nowadays a cell phone is more of a security blanket for us moms to gain access to our children so as long as they can use it any age is appropriate just do not dish out a lot of cash on the newest model and make sure it is used for emergency's and if they are a bit older and are app and internet savvy set parental controls and I encourage an app such as apples find my friends to keep track of their whereabouts.

In my opinion, between 10 -12, depending on the child's maturity level.
