Many of us get involved in a myriad of ways in our local, school or online communities. How do you choose where and how to get involved?

We homeschool our 15 year old daughter and 12 year old son. One of the ways I get involved is to teach classes at a local academy designed to support the homeschool community. The kids take classesthere as well. I have taught photography, as well as a class based on geocaching (a GPS-based treasure hunt). I am currently teaching home economics to about a dozen kids, mostly boys! Next semester...PE!

I'm involved with my childrens' schools but, I would like to be more involved. Both of my parents were very engaged in their community as well as charities. I think it instilled a sense of charitability and civic duty to me. I want to do the same for my children.

My town has a site on line that posts "What's going on in Carlsbad". Very helpful and makes it very easy to donate my time. Always a lot of choices!!

I'm on the PTF for my son's school. I play a leadership role in the A/V Ministry at our church. I volunteer at the local senior center weekly and love it. Anything I can do to make a difference and show people I care and am there for them, I love it!!

I volunteer my help and input on activities through my church and through organizations putting on craft fairs. When my children were younger and in school, I volunteered in school activities and fundraisers. Also through my work in the past in health care, I was very involved in events, fundraisers, entertainment for nursing home residents, as a member of the nursing home activity personel.

I find my leadership qualities are helpful and best put to use in our small community. I find that Im creative and have enough energy to be of help for example the cleanup after Hurricane Irene I rallied most of the younger people here to help clear away debris from seniors properties and to help remove food that was spoiled due to power outages as well as providing warm fresh meals to those in need. I feel when there is a need I want to be the first to help out where I can.
