Many of us get involved in a myriad of ways in our local, school or online communities. How do you choose where and how to get involved?

I collect items to put together treat bags for a local children's shelter. We have been doing Halloween for around six years and Christmas stocking stuffers for five years. I'm hoping to be able to add treat bags for their Valentine's day party and to find a shelter for boys (the current shelter is only girls from 6-17 years old) to put items together for them too.

I live in a very small town, maybe 200 people. I am very involved in my Community. But, one really has to in order for our community to be a fun place to live. There's not much to do..... I volunteer with the local non-profit horse rescue. I just did a raffle fundraiser for them. I also volunteer with the local 'woman's group' acting as Treasurer for the group. We raise money for scholarships for our local kids. We have TONS of potlucks, and I go to a lot of them.

I actually haven't had a chance to be actively involved in my community. I have had such a financial struggle these past months its been hard to focus on anything else. I would like to know of some volunteer opportunities in the South Florida area that are not too time consuming.

I started a program providing one hour of free mental health services to a veteran or their family member weekly. I also offer a reduced rate program for those that do not have insurance but need or want mental health or pain management services.

I like doing activities that my kids schools send information home about. I have also found that some librarys do little book readings and art n crafts for kids every so often. Thos past summer my kids and I got to help paint a community mural. It was a nice way to get out of the house and my oldest son felt really good about it.
