Horrible Acne!
Post reply image
on May 29, 2009 (Read 554869 times | Comments: 194)
My daughter is twelve years old, almost thirteen and she has moderate acne on her t-zone. We are looking for a regimen that actually works. We have tried some Neutrogena products but it made her face really dry and flaky. We also tried Clean & Clear which we used for three months and did not help at all. Any suggestions? I am soon going to try Noxzema products but I need reviews first. Thanks!

There is a product in Walmart that is similar to Proactiv but much cheaper called Acne Free. You'll want to get the kit with the wash, toner and repairing lotion. For the first 2 weeks or so her skin will dry out but so will the acne and after that period if she sticks with it the acne will be gone and her skin not as dry. Works wonders for me! Even during PMS I'll get maybe one pimple using Acne Free but it used to be horrible. I've tried Proactiv and I think it works just as well as Acne Free but a lot pricier.

there is a sulpher soap my Dr. recommended - sold at CVS drug stores in the soap isle (yellow and white box) It works wonders and Proactive is great as well. Clean and Clear, Oxy, Clinique, etc. did not work for my skin.

Hello! I would recommend going to a dermatologist. They can determine what products may be safe and effective on her skin type. They can even prescribe medicine that can help her rid of her mild acne. If the dermatologist isn't for you than there are many things that can help her clear up her skin. Two of the most effective things for clear skin is drinks a lot of water and healthy eating habits. Skin cannot be healthy without vital vitamins and minerals. She should use a mild cleanser. The harsher cleansers may aggravate her skin even more, and use a good moisturizer. Those are the best tips that I can give. Hormones at that age also come into play so it may soon pass! I hope I helped!

umm . if it is that bad and you have tried everything look into a derm.. i had ok skin but i know that for some people the products off the shelves just dont help./.. also make sure that she uses a 3 step routine.. or along those lines.. and proactive is very strong stuff.. if she has sensitive skin it may make the issue worse.. also make sure that you know what you are talking about.. bad acne is different from cystic acne.. or even roscea which is comonly confused with acne as well.. take a look at skin id by neutrogena and have her go through the questions.. while it may not be the right price range (nor am i sugesting it in particular...) but it will help you get an idea of what she will for the most part need to purchase and what will help you XD hope this helps

Have you tried a brand containing salycylic acid? A light application of a product with a mild strength directly on blemishes is effective and not too harsh.

Murad, Proactiv, Clearasil, Avon, Neutrogena, Noxzema, & several others only made my acne more painful & ugly by drying out what little healthy skin I had too much, but not clearing up the blemishes. Some brands worsened the blemishes. The blemishes would become quite sizable, hard & painful & last for weeks. Mario Badescu really helped calm down my breakouts, & it's the only product line that doesn't leave my skin feeling all taut or burning. MB's enzyme cleaning lotion, cucumber toner, & oil free moisturizer for everyday, & their acne repair kit with drying lotion, drying cream, & buffering lotion for breakouts finally calmed down my cystic acne for the 1st time in 30+ years. If you go to their website, they have a skin evalution survey that will guide you to products best for your daughter's problem, or you can call them & talk to them in person. It's expensive, but the products go a long way. It cost me about $100 up front, but that supply lasts over 1 year.

I had really bad acne too when I was growing up. I tryed everything under the sun from the cheepest to the really $$$$$ stuff. I broke down and went to my docter and he gave me a pill to take. It has worked. I get one pimple no more the once a month. Just try to keep your hands off your face and dont pick!!!

this is a simple, yet effective way of reducing acne. the answer? baking soda! totally inexpensive and works wonder. dampen your face with a warm wash cloth. pour baking soda into your hand and pour a small amount of warm water into your hand (more if you have a large amount.) spread evenly onto your face and let it sit for about 20-30 minutes. in the mean time, you can relax while the baking soda takes effect. once your time is up, rinse with warm water and pat dry. for me, i saw the results within a week or so and i kept using it.

i use cetaphil cleanser(around $5), and it works wonders on my skin. its a gentle cleanser and it keeps me from getting breakouts, which used to happen quite often. also, while in the shower, i usually rub my face with my fingers gently in a circular motion to exfoliate, without any cleanser, just water. it might sound odd, but it works, you can see the buildup and skin cells on your fingers when your done. i've used apricot scrub in the past and i get really bad breakouts after... hope this helps. :)

I am a teenager myself and i seem to have the same problems as your daughter. I tried Noxzema but it would dry out my skin and make it red. Right now i am using Biore blemish fighting ice cleanser it works like a charm and it also leaves your skin smooth and fresh feeling i highly recommend it! I hope this helps (: God bless
