Horrible Acne!
Post reply image

My daughter is twelve years old, almost thirteen and she has moderate acne on her t-zone. We are looking for a regimen that actually works. We have tried some Neutrogena products but it made her face really dry and flaky. We also tried Clean & Clear which we used for three months and did not help at all. Any suggestions? I am soon going to try Noxzema products but I need reviews first. Thanks!

Try the Burts Bees line. I have been taking every prroduct under the sun and found nothing else that worked except prescriptions for Retin A and others. I could not afford to keep going to the dermatologist each month to get the prescriptions and then get them filled. I got some free samples of Burts Bees new acne line. We use the gel cleanser, spot treatment and I use the moisturizer as well (my daughter just uses the first two). It worked as fast as the prescriptions we were using! And much cheaper! But not cheap. Great smell and natural products too. My daughter is 13, so I totally understand your predicament. My daughter uses the gel cleanser twice a day (used it three times at first), spot treatment twice a day. I use these just like her and then add the moisturizer in between the cleanser and the spot treatment. We found the whole line at CVS - look for the Burts Bees acne line. They have an acne scrub too, but we have not tried that yet.

I had great luck with the new Burts Bees acne treatment. Its fabulous, I had one of those really painful cyst like zits and used this stuff twice a day , within 2 days it was nearly gone.

I have to second the tea tree oil. It kills the bacteria and helps to dry up the blemish. Also, lavendar oil has been really helpful for me but it is drying so make sure to put it right on the blemish.

Mary Kay has some really great products for acne. My sister has had acne since she was about 11 0r 12..now 29. She has been using Mary kay face wash and moisturizer w/the acne gel. Her skin has never looked better. One of the most important things to remember is to wash your face every night before bed. The great thing is Mary kay is very affordable. Here is a website where you can check out their products and place an order..or find a consultant near you. :) Hope this helps. www.marykay.com/JRCarr

I concur....Proactive works wonders aside from getting a prescription from your doctor, plus they have lowered there price substanially, you can buy the package for $19.95 now...so I would highly recommend you invest the money and try it out!

Make sure that she knows to not touch her face or put anything against her face (ie. cell phone resting on cheek or turtleneck/clothes/blanket/sheet touching her jaw bone). I tried many products at that age, and the thing that helped THE MOST was when I stopped touching my face (resting your face in your hands, etc).

My 16 year old struggles with acne but has had some luck with the generic brand of Retin A. We use the generic because the name brand is very expensive and our insurance will not cover it. You have to get a prescription for it though. Have you tried going to a good dermatologist? In addition to generic Retin A she uses the Neutrogena wave to cleanse her face and it has worked WONDERS!!! It is around 10-12 bucks at Walmart and has really helped to clear her face. It also leaves your face feeling super clean and oh so soft! Its worth the $10. Refill packs of the pads are about $7.00. If nothing else, at least her face will be really clean!

Proactive sucks. It dried my skin so bad it cracked and blistered and made things worse. Acne free is AMAZING I'm 16 and use it everyday. Make sure she uses oil free moisturizer too. If she uses makeup make sure she takes it off every night and make sure the makeup wont clogg pores. Bareminerals is great and you can find off brands on ebay for like 20 bucks for a set. Make sure shes not using gels and oils on her hair and hairsray kills your skin as well.
