Horrible Acne!
Post reply image

My daughter is twelve years old, almost thirteen and she has moderate acne on her t-zone. We are looking for a regimen that actually works. We have tried some Neutrogena products but it made her face really dry and flaky. We also tried Clean & Clear which we used for three months and did not help at all. Any suggestions? I am soon going to try Noxzema products but I need reviews first. Thanks!

I recommend trying Asepso Antibacterial soap. I have been using it since May and my skin is better than it has been in years! It is inexpensive when you order it on eBay or Amazon.

By the way, I agree about Neutrogena products. I used their oil-free acne wash and it worked better than other store bought products but it made my skin so dry that my moisturizers wouldn't work. I had to use cocoa butter to moisturize, which made my skin look oily.

I feel for your daughter!!! I had minimal acne issues as a child, but beginning in grad school, i developed horrible acne, mostly cystic acne which is red, inflamed, under your skin, and extremely painful. I tried everything over the counter, it only made it worse. I tried prescription creams and gels, and it dried my skin out to the point that my skin became super itchy, scaly, and dry. I also tried many natural products, such as oils, including tea tree oil, but it also made my skin very irritated. I came across a brand called Paulas Choice and searched the website. It is a natural skin care company by a woman who spent years researching products and ingredients and their effects on skin. She has different lines tailored to specific skin concerns, so its never one size fits all. I e-chatted with a representative and she was soooo helpful and send me a huuuge free sample of what she recommended. Althought it took a couple of weeks, my acne almost completely cleared

I literally found my representative online the following month to personally thank her for changing my skin!!! The product i use is a three step program, but super easy and super worth it. It seriously changed my life and my confidence. I would recommend them to anyone i meet. Its pricier than over the counter products, but u WILL see amazing results! I can't speak highly enough about it!. I noticed some small results even within a few days, although it took a bit longer for full results. Although i occasionally get a flare up (due to stress/hormones), its solo much more under control than what it was. PLEASE look into it! Seriously!

My sister get acne fairly bad, she washes her face as usual then applies witchhazel with 1-2 drops of tea tree oil at night and again in the morning followed with a gentle moisturizer such as cerave. it seems to help hers quite a bit. Its worth a shot.

I would suggest washing her skin with cocoanut oil and then use Aveeno Clear Complexion Cream Cleanser, pat skin dry, DO NOT RUB! After washing skin, use ELF Zit Zapper on just the acne spots. Don't use the Elf spot treatment all over the skin as that could irritate skin that doesn't need it. Use a light moisturizer after. Good luck!

Clinique has a wonderful acne line. I use the bar soap, acne clarifying lotion, and then their acne moisturizer. It does not dry me out or make my skin flaky. Those flakes are dead skin that is also causing her pores to clog. She need to gently exfoliate everyday so it is vital to have some kind of chemical exfoliation like Cliniques acne clarifying lotion. A three step system is the way to go.

I use Ora's Amazing Herbal Rejuvi-Cleanse Daily Exfoliating Powder Face Mask & Cleanser. If you want a deep clean then you could use their Power Cleanse Intensive Face Scrub. I also follow up with their Daily Nourish Face Oil Serum.

For a lot of people, ProActiv is really harsh, so you'll just have to be careful if she has sensitive skin. Personally, naturally derived witch hazel has worked really well for me on my T-zone. I just put it on a cotton swab as a toner and apply either salicylic acid or benzol peroxide afterwards (you have to be sure to use an spf with the benzol though). The only downside to benzol peroxide is it makes your skin very flaky at times but the 10% formula is one of the strongest nonprescription acne treatments.
