Motherhood and Makeup: What's Your Take

Motherhood has changed me in many ways, but one thing it’s certainly done is increase the dark circles under my eyes. I know, I know, it’s a small price to pay for the joy my daughter brings me, but I can’t say that I love the tired-exhausted look they give me in the morning. So after lots of trial-and-error I’ve found a great concealer that I love and I never leave the house without it.

In addition to the concealer, I usually put on some mascara and blush. If I’m really getting serious, I’ll put on the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, which makes my face look like I’ve been tanning in my back yard instead of staying up late catching up on work the night before. I might throw on some lipstick later in the day, but most of the time, that’s my entire makeup routine, which I think is pretty quick and light.

For me, putting on a little makeup in the morning is a good way to pick myself up and get ready for the day. If I look better, I feel better, period. So I find it surprising when I hear from other moms that since they’ve had kids they’ve stopped wearing makeup. Some say they don’t have the time, which I find hard to believe, but others simply say that they’ve stopped caring as much.

I think that’s really sad. Not the makeup part but the part of moms not investing time in themselves. Believe me, I know how hard this is. You know this manicure I was going to get a few weekends ago? Didn’t make it because it was a sunny day and I ended up playing with my daughter in the backyard instead. But I think we have to be reminded to not give up on ourselves as women after we become moms, to remember that it’s important to feel good and take care of ourselves, whether it means putting on a little concealer, getting to the gym, or taking an afternoon off.

I agree with Nataly, we should all make it a point to take time and care with ourselves after becoming a Mother. I myself don't wear it every day, I am a stay at home Mom and don't need leave the house every day. That being said, on days when I choose to pamper myself, (even just a little!) I tend to get alot more done around the house as a "side effect". My husband definetely notices when I do wear some makeup, and I feel more upbeat throughout my day. It is amazing what just the basics can do for our self image! Being happy is the best way to share and encourage happiness within the family, smiles are definetely just as "catching" as the flu... If your family sees you taking care of yourself, they will be encouraged to do the same. (How often does your daughter whine about showers, hair brushing, etc.?) When she observes me doing these things she is more likely to follow suit.

With a newborn in the house, my one rule is to wear makeup daily....even if it means sacrificing those precious few minutes of "quiet time" when my husband gets ready for work.

Wearing makeup can be like wearing a whole different attitude. Sometimes you need an attitude adjustment and sometimes you're just fine the way you are. I think that a little makeup when you feel a little less than wonderful goes a long way for making you feel that way and as far-fetched as this may sound... may even make you be a better mom. Bare with me here... if you feel better you will most likely be all-around more positive. It's a little thing that can really have a huge affect.

I noticed another mom saying something about Makeup being expensive.. if you shop around a bit it doesnt have to be! ELF is amazing quality for SUCH a bargain. I am signed up for their newsletter and everyday they send me some sort of bargain. I got all 18 of the mineral eye shadows for 75% off! What a steal! Another mineral line that wont cost you an arm and a leg is Everyday minerals, I love them and have used them for quite some time now. They are a great alternative to Bare Minerals for a fraction of the cost.. have all the same ingredients except Bismouth which makes people itch! BONUS!

Makeup is SO important to me in making me feel better about myself! I have always been a big fan but never really collected much. Just the basics, and when I first had my daughter I really let it all go to the wayside but when she was about 4 months old I was introduced to Mineral makeup and was HOOKED ever since. I love trying new things, especially when its something I absolutely love! I have found that entering mommy hood I really dont care what others think of me.. so its not a disaster if I leave the house with no makeup on. I have since built up quite a collection and friends come over for me to do their makeup all the time, when Gianna is napping and I have a little free time I am on You Tube learning new tips and tricks from Gurus to learn new skills!

do believe the once you become a mom you can tend to let yourself go a bit . but putting on a little bit a makeup and getting dress up sure does make my day before i had my daughter i would always glam up to go out. but once i started my mommy role all of that when out the window my daughre just turned one on the 13 of this month and i just started getting back on track with my glam .

Makeup certainly can and at the same time when you feel good, it just shows through energy and also sadly by how people treat you when you wear make up and compared to dont sometimes.

Just taking the time for yourself, improves your relationships. It says I am worth it and that energy is noticed by everyone around you. It is amazing how different I feel when I put on just lipstick, and always carry it in my purse--sometimes I don't use it, but it is good to know I have it with me. I am a fan of enhancing my face without looking like I have tons of makeup on--that being the true art of makeup. But taking time for yourself makes you a better mom, wife, sister, friend. Fill yourself to overflowing and give from the overflow, because you cannot give generously from an empty cup. Shine like the sun my sisters, your season is NOW.

I wear mineral makeup everyday. I use less on weekends (I do work full-time thru the week.) I feel better about myself if I have it on. It maybe just mascara, eyeliner (can't live without!), and powder--wow what a difference it makes !

I LOVE MAKEUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love how it can make you feel better or how you can try diffirent looks like staying natural or totally transforming the way you look just depending on the mood youre in for that day. Ladies I have 4 children and I am 30 years old, I remember my mom was is the same situation when she let herself go and fell into a low self esteem almost deppression like attitude, I refuse to be that way. And my husband loves to go with me when i go makeup shopping because he to likes to splurge on face masks and facial creams!!!!!

I wear makeup everyday. Depending on how my skin is acting one day I can choose to wear mineral makeup or sometimes liquid. I dont tend to wear eyeshadow because I really dont know how to use it(other than alittle over the eyelid) the one makeup item I can not do without is my mascara.I feel it perks your whole face up. I read on a board that if the eyes are windows of your soul the your lashes are your window dressings..lol I just feel alot better when I make the effort for myself.

I am 31 and just learned how to wear eyeshadow. I have discovered a whole new look and am very delighted with the outcome. The fact that I can put all my makeup on in less then 5 minutes makes both my day and that of my young sons.

MY DAUGHTER HAD MY GRANDSON WAS SORT OF DEPRESSED I BOUGHT HER SOME MINERAL MAKE-UP TO MAKE HER FEEL GOOD ABOUT HER SELF AND SHE USED IT AND HAS MORE GOOD DAYS NOW. MY OTHER DAUGHTER BOUGHT HERSELF A WHOLE NEW SET OF MAKE-UP AND IS FEELING BETTER ABOUT GETTING UP AND GOING TO WORK BECAUSE OF THE BEAUTY IT BRINGS OUT IN HER .............BOTH WERE ALREADY BEAUTIFUL BUT JUST SOME MAKE-UP CAN ENHANCE WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE AND PUT THAT SPARK OF CONFIDENCE IN YOU TO GO OUT AND FACE THE WORLD.
