A brand new car or a handbag?

   By drodriguez  Sep 14, 2008

You may be shaking your head in disbelief, but the latest "it" bag called Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag retails for $45, 352. Why is this bag as expensive as a new car? It does feature a gold chain handle, but the real reason for the high price is that it's made up of samples of 15 different Louis Vuitton Handbags from the LV spring/summer and cruise lines. If you want one of these bags, you have to get in line?. There will only be a limited number being made and the fashionista's tell us there's already a long waiting list!

A more affordable and equally sought after “it” bag is the enviro-stylish re-usable shopping bag by top UK designer Anya Hindmarch. It sold out in the UK in minutes. The tote officially named “I’m Not A Plastic Bag” is made from cotton, not plastic and so far only sold in the UK. The company promises to have more in stock in mid- April and they will also be sold, again in limited quantities and colors, in other countries this summer.

If you had the money would you prefer the environmentally friendly and inexpensive bag or the Louis Vuitton?

There is no way that someone should be carrying around their entire bank account or childs education funds on their shoulders. This is absolutely ridiculous!

I would never buy the LV bag. I love nice bags, and own a Kelly bag, (gift from my mother inlaw), as I would never spend the money on one. Since I married into a family that can and has spent several thousand on a hangbag, 25k, Hermes black croc, It belonged to my husbands grandmother, at a certain level, they are not looking at the price tag, but the quality & design. They donate alot of money all year long, by the way. The only people who use LV products are new rich, anybody with an sliver of taste would not be caught dead using a label that is copied and sold on every street corner, with the real deal LV bags, if your not wearing the right clothing and watch earrings , etc to go with it, easy give away. Just my two cents

Even if I had "money to burn," I'd still go with the environmentally friendly bag. The LV bag is just plain ugly. I have no problem spending money for quality, especially knowing that I'm paying an item that's been crafted by human hands. But spending money on something ugly? Forget it.

I agree with reader pippakay..."i'd buy a birkin bag and be done with it."

for that kind of money, i'd buy a birkin bag and be done with it. this one's just fugly.

of course, if you have that kind of money, you've probably already got a birkin!

Seems a shame to spend that much money on this when you could put a very deserving kid through a public college. It would be a much better use of that money for society!

I usually laugh at magazines where they list "a great bargin!!" at $200 (as an example!) I'm comfortable in the $20-$40 range, thAnkyOUvErymUch!!!

I love purses, but not such a fan of designers unless it's actually a good design! The LV bag is hideous. I feel like this obsession with designers is sometimes closer to the tale of the Emperors New Clothes than anything else.

I would never spend that much money on a purse. I won't pay over $20.00 for a purse.

Definitly think taking your own bag when shopping is going to catch on-look at IKEA

WOW, I could never spend that much money on a purse. Especially since mine gets thrown around like a rag doll. I would be afraid to use it. I think that ugly bag should be donated to charity, use the money for people who have nothing, like a meal, or some clothes. Let's get real.
