Things of Interest: The Secret

It's sweeping the country and beyond. The Secret, a 90 minute movie/documentary featuring 25 teachers, authors, and philosophers, was created by Australian Rhonda Byrne. She says that if you follow its philosophy, you can create the life you want... whether that means getting out of debt, finding a more fulfilling job or even falling in love.

Oprah even featured "The Secret" on not only one, but two of her recent episodes.

What exactly is "The Secret"?

Rhonda Byrne defines The Secret as the law of attraction, which is the principle that "like attracts like." Rhonda calls it "the most powerful law in the universe," and says it is working all the time. "What we do is we attract into our lives the things we want, and that is based on what we're thinking and feeling," Rhonda says. The principle explains that we create our own circumstances by the choices we make in life. And the choices we make are fueled by our thoughts... which means our thoughts are the most powerful things we have here on earth.

Many who have read or watched "The Secret" call it life changing.

The Secret is available as a book or DVD. To learn more go to: www.thesecret.tv

I watched The Secret several years ago and, although I believe in positive thinking, I didnt appreciate the emphasis on focusing on attaining one's own desires for one's own benefit...in my opinion, many of today's problems in our society is a result of the emphasis on the self and the resulting attention-seeking and entitlement attitudes leading to broken relationships, various addictions, financial woes, health concerns, dysfunctional families, troubled children and youth,  pervasive violence and/or negligence, and spiritual emptiness.....when we focus upwards (as in towards God) and outwards (as in towards others), the desires of our hearts change and we seek fulfillment in relationships and not just in what society considers as successful or desirable ( money, power, prestige, etc)...and we shouldn't want to keep the "secret" of our source of true fulfillment (love of God and for each other) a secret...we should show that love to everyone!

When I was younger I told a lie about my personal life and I stuck with it so well that after 1 month it really became my reality. It was crazy. And that happened before I read "The Secret". Because of that fact and many other minor incidents I really believe in the "power" of "The Secret". However we shall focus on "why we do what we do" and not on "do this to get that". I believe "The Secret" exists but we have to live spontaneously, otherwise it won't work. Believe in yourself and always be kind because as "like attracts like" so "good energy attracts good energy".

allyd,

I thought about what you said earlier today while I was watching it, and you dont have to replace the Lord with this way f thinking. Of course the Lord comes first, ALL THE TIME. you aren't replacing him in any way. you simply change the way you think and perceive and the positive attitude you adopt makes postive things happen and come your way. positive atracts positive negative attracts negative. Thats all. It has nothing to do with Religon, at least I didn't think so.

I just watched The Secret today, just this morning. How weird I get to speak about it here. It was incredable. It takes "positive thinking" to a whole new level. It takes positive thinking and says, don't think positive and hope it happens, think it INTO happening. You actually WILL something to happen. I t is incredable. simply incredable. I have already changed the way I think. You can't help but change the way you think after seeing it.

I haven't read the book yet but I heard about in on Oprah and Michael Baisden. From what I heard it's an inspirational book that talks about changing negative things in your liffe to a positive. I've been having a lot of negative things happening in my life and I'm very much interested in reading this book. I will try to read this book soon, so much has been said. I'm looking forward to it.

Give me God over energy any day. If we all wrote a book about concepts that are pretty well known, changed the words and dressed up the concepts - we too could be multi-millionaires, at the expense of others.

Give me a belief in God any day - and as for my energy, I think its not a reason to invest in the wealth building of anyone else.

I have read and studied the secret I have also incorporated it into my life. It works if you know how to use it. We have been taught most of our lives to think and act negatively that its easy to fall into the trap. When you open your heart and eyes and mind and believe beyond what you have been taught then the power within comes fwd to mold and shape our future and what we really want. See, believe then accept and it will come true. I have seen it work!

I've heard of the secret. Is it still considered a secret since so many people know of it now? ok nevermind. :)

I have studied "The Secret" and found that although it is not rocket science; it is a powerful thing to know! In each one of us lies the ability to see and steer our own life to the positive as opposed to the negative. It does work and I am thankful for the experience of reading this wonderful book.

I have watched "The Secret" and I believe the information given in it is true. However, I do not believe that any one is claiming that "The Secret" is something new. It has been around for centuries and really makes sense. If a person has no goal in life, many times they don't go anywhere because there isn't a drive to do much. The Secret helps a person to focus energy and, therefore; positive events happen.

Unfortunately, we live in an era where everything is commercialized and every service has a price. We pay for manicures, special coffee, along with our standbys of doctors, dentists, hair stylists, etc. I paid $5 to watch the Secret at their website and then $30 to buy the movie and I can say that I've benefitted much more from that DVD than I did from the same $30 I spent on my last pedicure or the $5 I spent on my last mocha. The teachers especially offer the more expesive services by way of workshops, and I hear a lot of complaining that they would charge so much for such a service. Here's my perspective... I would have much rather spent my money on a 2 day, uplifing workshop to better my life than $550 (after insurance) to have a doctor take 5 minutes out of his day to remove a green plastic bb from my toddler's nose. :)

I don?t think that ?the secret? is at all new. The teachings or views...however you want to define them...have been in the world through both organized religions and spiritual type teachings for centuries. I don?t see anything wrong with people expressing their own spiritual journey...each person has to decide what path works best for themselves. The same message can be delivered in many ways and yet only one approach might reach a particular person. More power to anyone who is trying to improve their own life. I just don?t like the extreme commercialization of it all.

I agree that the secret is something that has been marketed time and time again just in different ways and by different people, but if it has helped anyone find direction to make their lives better then it's all worth it.
