It can be hard to juggle everyday tasks and still make time for some true relaxation. With the dreary winter weather and the sun setting sooner, it can seem like there’s not enough hours in the day! The holiday season has come and gone, and now it’s time to get back into the swing of things.

When was the last time that you really took a moment to de-stress? Have you made yourself a priority lately? If it’s been a while, or if you’re looking forward to doing it again, these suggestions can help you get into relaxation mode.

To help you get started, we're giving away a luxurious prize to five lucky members! Enter to win a VictoriaLand Beauty Skin-Loving Moisturizer nourishing face and neck cream. Each is a $75 value! This cream is packed with natural oils and ingredients that will help your skin look and feel amazing.

Go to your happy place.

One of the simplest ways to unwind is to go to a place that makes you feel good- literally. A place where you can do what makes you happy! It doesn’t have to be a long process, but setting aside just a few minutes to relax can make a big difference. Maybe that means lying in bed with a blanket and a book. Maybe it’s taking a walk to enjoy nature. It could be getting some exercise or a much-needed yoga session. The main thing to do is to go to a peaceful space so that you can have some quality “you” time.

Try soaking away the stress with a bubble bath. It works as a treatment for your body and your mind. Adding in candles with your favorite scents and music to fit your mood can help amplify the experience. This time can be used to give your skin some extra TLC, too.

During the harsh winter months, it’s important to make sure your skin and body feels nourished. Which is why we are so excited to be giving away 5 containers of the VictoriaLand Beauty Skin-Loving Moisturizer nourishing face and neck cream. Plus, we love this woman-owned business that uses natural ingredients and has packaging accessible to visually impaired people. Find out more here.

Make use of essential oils.

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts. Different types of oils have various uses, so there’s a few ways to reap the benefits. A great introduction into using oils is aromatherapy. You can diffuse them into the air to produce a pleasant, soothing scent.

Lavender, chamomile, and peppermint oils smell great and can make you feel even better when you breathe them in. Or, you can apply essential oils topically for headache/pain relief. Just be sure to mix/dilute it with a carrier oil, like coconut or grapeseed, so that it won’t irritate your skin. The ways you use oils and which ones you choose are customizable. You can mix and match based on what you need! For a quick overview of all things essential oils, check out this Healthline article

Leave the devices alone.

It might be a bit uncomfortable at first. Being without our devices usually doesn’t happen on purpose, but taking some time away can help ease your mind. Instead of looking at endless notifications or continuously checking emails, giving yourself some distance can make more room for things that bring you peace. Need some help with this? We did too! We learned some helpful strategies from this book: How to Break Up with Your Phone: The 30-Day Plan to Take Back Your Life.

Think about it...

Removing distractions sets the stage for mindfulness meditation as well. Mindfulness meditation is taking time to focus on and be grateful for the things we often overlook. No worrying about tomorrow or the past, just being in the now. Even if it’s only for a few minutes, mindfulness can help you go from stressed or anxious to content and calm.

It’s not always easy to get into the mindset. Thankfully, there’s a few apps that can help with that! Try the Simple Habit Daily Meditation app (available on the Apple app store and Google Play store) for sessions that you can tailor to your needs. There’s even a 5-minute option. Also check out 10% Happier: Meditation, an iPhone app that guides fidgety skeptics through meditation. There’s a book version available for meditation help, too. All you need is a few minutes and a clear mind to make it happen!

The only place I can truly be relaxed, is in the saddle. Find a friend, we load our horses up, and hit the trails. The simplicity of riding while taking in all the beauty this part of the world has to offer; while getting to see so much wildlife up close, there is no better soul searching/healing thing that I have found. The whole process leaves me feeling like a new person again. It helps ease the pain in my lower back and seems to center me...I can't really even explain how much more like myself I feel after being in the saddle for a few hours. I always come away from riding with a better outlook on life. Plus, I get to spend quality time with someone that sees the world like I do, from our saddles.  And the feeling I get from having found a horse, who has a soul that can speak to my soul, is refreshing beyond words and leads to a more relaxed ride, as he seems to sense what I need from him & vise versa.

Depending on the time of year, curling up in the corner of the couch with my coffee and and a good book with classical music playing in the background is one way I relax. Another is ringing up my sister for a girls day and relaxing in her hot tub discussing music and books and generally just catching up on life.

I do a variety of things to relax.  Sometimes I take a bath, light a candle, have a glass of wine, turn on my essential oil diffuser, get off social media and watch a show or movie, do some floor exercises, use my meditation app, take a walk, go to the beach, drink coffee in the morning and look out my window or sit outside in the summer.
