Who doesn't love vacation? It's wonderful to escape the daily schedule, see new places and have someone else make you dinner.

But not every vacation is perfect. When I was a kid, my sister got a stomach bug at Disney and threw up on Goofy's shoe. And recently, when our flight to Chicago was cancelled, my family spent 8 hours at an airport just 15 minutes from our house.

While we can't prevent all the oops (sorry, Goofy!), read on for tips to avoid some of the bigger #VacationMishaps. Plus, be ready for your next trip, thanks to SuiteCase, a new company that sends vacation essentials directly to your hotel room or home. Enter below to win a free package. Bonus: there's also a special discount code for all of our members!

Here are some #VacationMishaps we've made, along with ways to avoid them...

Planning too much. Or too little.

No one wants to be so busy on vacation that they need another vacation. But you also know that if the kids are bored, it will never be relaxing. It's tough to balance everything to minimize the whining. I've found that it's best to plan one activity per day. That way, there's still time to enjoy that hike or museum, but also enough hours in the day for relaxation. So when I plan a trip, I look up all the things I want to do, and that's how many days we stay.

Not thinking about the weather.

I have a knack for always getting bad weather on vacation. It's become a recurring joke with my husband. But it has shown us to be resourceful and to plan ahead. So now we always have a couple of indoor activities planned before we leave (bowling and movies are good fall-backs), we bring rain jackets and mittens everywhere we go, and we are flexible about moving activities around based on forecast. Plus, we try to make the best of it - one of my favorite vacation memories is when we went swimming in the rain!

Keeping your phone in your hand.

It's so tempting to take photos of everything and then post them for the world to see. But after doing that, I realized how much I actually was missing. So now I have my camera in my pocket, ready for when my kids climb to the top of a giant rock pile. And then I put it away to head up there with them. I can still post on social after the kids are sleeping soundly and I finally have a moment to myself.

Forgetting the little things.

I love those little hotel shampoos - they make vacation so much more convenient. And then I look at my photos and realize that my frizzy hair does not love them back. Which is why I am intrigued by SuiteCase. They send packages of vacation essentials right to your hotel, resort or airBnB. Order a week in advance and it will be waiting for you when you arrive. SuiteCase can even send you extra sunscreen, since you don't want to spend your beach vacation healing from a day 1 burn!

Just got back from MommyCon Chicago and almost missed my flight on the way there due to setting my alarm clock wrong. Also...snacks. Major mishap every time I get to my room and realize I am starved and have nothing to eat. Always bring the snacks!

We were going camping. Since it looked like rain, I put all of the family's underwear in a big plastic bag - and then left the bag home.

In January we went on a 14 day cruise, the day before leaving I got sick. I stayed the first 5 days on the cruise in bed.

I had the "lotion explosion" happen in my suitcase, so I ALWAYS pack every toiletry in a ziploc or reusable bag. That was the worst. Yuck.

We decided to spend 2 glorious weeks in Florida to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Middle of first week there was a hurricane...our area did not get hit too badly but others around us were hit hard.

I am a really bad over packer. I packed 4 suitcases FULL for a trip to Maui for 2 people. In the Maui airport, there are multiple scanner checkpoints for your suitcases before you can even go through security. My suitcases were so full that they would not fit through the scanner. Had to pull out clothes and rearrange everything. This took up so much time that we almost missed our flight home. There had been paging us over the intercom system and were getting ready to shut the doors when we finally reached the check in window. Talk about sweating in your boots. It was the last flight out for the day and we would have had to sleep in the airport.

Nothing huge (thankfully) but so many forgotten toiletries and medical things! Too often I've needed to buy thermometers during trips

Always keep a medical kit on hand, nothing too elaborate but couple of bandaids and some aspirin/acetaminophen. Never know when you may get a cut or have a headache.

OMG! This would be awesome! Traveling with my husband and 2 small kids for a 5-day vacation next month and the list of items to pack is exponentially growing.

During one trip to Paris for work, I forgot to pack a belt for a pair of pants that don't stay in place without one. I had to navigate an upscale French department store to find one within my budget.
