Last year was s’mores. Before that, it was candy corn. And who can forget about bacon? Now this year’s "It Food" is pumpkin spice.

You see it everywhere, from cereal to coffee to yogurt. But how does it really taste? Can it really be as good as bacon?!? [Spoiler alert: nothing can be as good as bacon.]

We taste-tested a variety of these pumpkin spice foods to find out which are good, which are bad, and which are down-right ugly.

Blue Diamond Almonds

We started with the almonds because we wanted to get them out of the way. Who really likes almonds anyway? But we were pleasantly surprised. The light spice flavor made the almonds quite tasty. Not too sweet, not too bland. We actually finished the container the next day and will buy them again. Yes, this taste-test was off to a great start...

Oreo

... which made our second item that much more disappointing. The Oreo creme filling looked like orange-colored play-doh. And then the cookie tasted bland, with just a hint of vanilla. None of us could detect any pumpkin or spice flavor anywhere. So sad.

Frosted Mini-Wheats

This cereal looks like the standard mini-wheat but with some fake orange coloring drizzled on top. The pumpkin spice taste was good, but a little too subtle after we added the milk. It became just a less sweet mini-wheat. We liked these enough to finish the box, but had hopes for a little more flavor.

Green Mountain Coffee

We thought that instead of spending a week's pay on a cup of pumpkin spice coffee at the nearby coffee chain, we could make one at home. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. It was a good cup of coffee, and there was a subtle spice smell. But the flavoring just didn't come through. Of course, this one didn't have the sugar and whipped cream that we usually get, so maybe we should stay at home anyway.

Hershey's Kisses

Why do companies think that pumpkin foods must be fake orange-colored? Once unwrapped, they lose their appeal. Luckily, the taste was better than they looked. It wasn't our favorite Hershey's Kiss, but these chocolates were rich and tangy and definitely delivered on the pumpkin spice they promised.

Chobani Greek Yogurt

Happily, we eneded our tasting on a high note. This yogurt tasted like pumpkin pie - not too sweet and not too spicy. We thoroughly enjoyed it and just wished there was more in that little container. It was even a light creamy color - no fake orange in sight!
