There was a whole lotta dancin' in the streets this past Saturday as hoofers, poppers, tappers, ballerinas and beat boys of every stripe gathered to celebrate the art of dance throughout America for #NationalDanceDay.
This year the Dizzy Feet Foundation posted three instructional Everybody Dance routines on YouTube (an Advanced, a Beginner, and a Seated) to learn - and then partied it out with the crowd at events in cities coast to coast. The hashtag trended at #1 on Twitter throughout the day.
The goal of this National Holiday, passed by Congress in 2010, is to promote dance as part of a healthy active lifestyle. The Dizzy Feet Foundation was created by Nigel Lythgoe, reality TV producer and performing-arts advocate, to sponsor and support dance education programs.
Are you a fan of Nigel's other creation, the show So You Think You Can Dance? If so, do you have a favorite routine that has left you crying, screaming, or cheering from either a choreography that drew you in, or a personal story that reached you?
If so, tell us about any dance experience in the comments below - and you'll automatically be entered to win a pair of 14kt gold classic hoop earrings!
To get in the mood, here are a few of the show's award-winning works that cover the gamut from Bollywood, Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern Dance, Latin, Swing, Tango, Jive and then some - as they speak to our humanity.

I adore this show and as a trained dancer I love that it's educating so many people about the different dance styles. I have adored many of the numbers but some standouts for me are Melanie and Marcos's "Chorus Line-esk duet" (I forget the name) Twitch and Alex's "Outta Your Mind" and I'm blanking on the others...
I took tap dancing lessons as a young girl. It was quite fun. I wish I had stayed with the lessons!
I love this show! Why would I want to choose? All of the routines are GREAT! I can't choose... even though I never danced, I have 2 daughters that LOVE IT!!! One even graduated from college with a degree in teaching dance.
mercy
I have seen the show a few times and admire dancers but I do not dance too much nowadays.
not my favourite show
Janette and Brandon's Jazz Number "Ruby Blue" was absolutely wonderful! I had never heard the song before and I remember that I had to find it. I loved that it was about two thieves and somehow that really worked with the costumes and props very well!
this show is one of my favorites. My favorite dance was the one that was about the woman battling breast cancer. I cried the first time I watched and ever time it's been on since. Very moving!
Alex and Twitch were fabulous in all of their dance routines! Just lovely to watch.
I love to ballroom dance
Outta' My Head - Twitch and Alex. The version with Ellen was pretty good too.
Mercy- Twitch and Katee
I'm a fan! I recently found out that the lady in charge of the hair department is from my hometown. She does a great job because everybody on this show always looks so glamourous!
Robert and Allison to Coldplay's Fix You really tells a story. I like many of the dances on this show.
