Mom is very old fashioned and we didn't discuss a lot of things when I was growing up. So that made me very open with my own children and they come to us and tell us everything and can ask anything.

My mom is no longer with me, and i miss her more everyday. She was my go to person for my parenting and home and family advice. If she were here today she and i would both agree that family and home is what it is all about, however we would both also agree that in all we do for our families and home we would just like some respect for all we do.

My mother had 10 children and she did her best to make sure we had traditions that we have continued to this day. She always told us to do what we have to do before we do what we want to do and this is the most repeated piece of counsel that my siblings and I use with our own children. When we get together, you will always hear one of us saying that as we are preparing a meal or getting ready to go to an event and the reply is always, "okay, mama!" Now that my mother is having serious health challenges, we treasure those words to live by even more.

Say everything with a SMILE:) even negative things. It throws people for a loop and they don't take criticism as hard.

The best saying my mother always used was, "Where there's a will, there's a way." It really shaped my whole outlook as a human being. She said it so often as I grew up, I just internalized it, believed it and applied that attitude toward everything in life. It helped me to never be afraid or discouraged to do anything I really wanted to do. I automatically believed I could do anything in life (whether I could or couldn't) before I ever even tried! As a result, seeing other people struggle with a lack of self confidence was actually hard for me to relate to.

I teach my kids to 'always do their best', whether it is for their sibling, their neighbor, their classmate, or their employer.

My mom once told me to not judge people by their past experiences....instead support them and listen to their story. So, although I judged a sweet and gentle spirit guy for being divorced...mom was right! He turned out to be the best, and I learned that we sometimes make choices in life that cause us hard aches but we get up and learn from those situations! Had I not listened to my mom I would've never given my now husband of 9 years a chance! I love him so much and love my mom for those words she instilled in my heart!

THE BEST advice my mom ever gave me was about marriage. She said if you ever have a fight with your spouse, not to tell your family about it. Meaning her parents and siblings, if you plan on staying with them that is. All it does is create animosity between the two parties and you end up being put in the middle playing referee. She spoke from experience, she did that with my dad in the early yrs and for the rest of their 45 yrs of marriage she paid the price. Often words are spoken out of anger or hurt and once they are out there you just can't take them back. Its a great lesson and one that I took into my marriage and 23 yrs later both sides still love eachother.

My mom is the most versatile and adaptable woman I know. Not only does she perform the traditional motherly roles, she is also our resident handy man. She can do a man's job on the house, in the yard. She never complains. She works hard and always tries to teach us to be better people in life. she's a light of encouragement. She deserves the best

Tell it like it is. You may not be everyone' cup of tea but honesty is your best bet.

Think I already submitted a comment but in the event I have not...my mom always had her hands full with my older brother, my twin sister and me. In addition to that, she helped my dad out at his car dealership and garage in our small town in Nebraska but mom always had time to make sure we were learning, growing and maturing. Her best advice to us was slow and steady wins the race, less often can be more and never miss the chance to help another and to make a difference for others. I have been doing my best to live by those tenets of love and wisdom and never fail to remember my mom and her impact on my life when she shared that wisdom with us. Thanks mom! You are still so greatly missed.

My grandmother adopted my brothers and I. She passed when I was eight and still after that I hadn't formed a good relationship with my mother until I started having children of my own. Now I'm a mother of a 4 year old girl and a 4 month old boy and they call her Nana. She helped me form a relationship with Christ and the best advice she gave me was a Disney quote "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothin at all" and I truly live by that. On mother's day I remember my first mother who's passed and the mother she has left me with today!
