What Is Your Favorite School Memory?

School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

"Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment, until it becomes a memory. - Unknown"

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

I would have to say I remember high school better than anything. I would have to say I dont have just one favorite memory. I loved sitting by the office during lunch with my older brother and his friends, I also loved sitting with my younger brother and his friends during my senior year. I graduated very early during my senior year, but loved the prom committee, yearbook club, BPA and all the other things I was involved in up until I left. I also got married in the middle of my senior year and 6 months later became pregnant with my oldest.

One of my favorite school memories was being asked by my 3rd grade teacher Ms. Schoenberg to go to the refrigerator in the teacher's lounge to retrieve her thermos of iced coffee. Only the "good" kids were allowed to leave the room to run errands so her asking me was a big deal because in second grade it seemed I could not do anything correctly. Ms Schoenberg did many things over the course of the year to build my confidence and make me like school again, and the iced coffee thermos errand was the starting point.

My favorite school memory is spending time in my college dorm with amazing friends. My first year stayed in a dorm w. a program called WISE- Women In Science and Engineering. I made some of the most amazing life long friends there while staying up late night having study parties, movie nights and the like.

My favorite memory is when I was in Catholic school as a young girl and I was so excited to get new penny loafer's ever year during back to school shopping. It was a big ritual, my brother and I would try to find the shiniest pennies to put in our loafers.

I STILL remember having a substitute teacher in 4th grade stop his lesson and accuse me of attempting to disrupt the class when I blew my nose. I had allergies and, this time, a bad cold, and my nose blowing used to sound like a serious FOGHORN, but it was never purposefully to disrupt the class, it was just a really loud nose blowing!!

My favorite memory of school was my mom always took a picture of us on the front porch before we ran down the road to catch the bus. They have been kept in her picture books.

When I was 5 year old my dad , who was in the Air Force, was stationed at a new base in the middle of the school year. I was terrified to go to a brand new school all alone. I had bright red hair and looked like Pippi Longstockings! I will always remember going to that classroom and being introduced by the teacher to all those staring eyes. The class was full so I would have to have desk brought in and was just about to cry when as little girl who had the prettiest jet black hair came up to me took my hand and said "you can have my desk and be my best friend". That was 30 years ago and today she is still my best friend in the world.
