School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

I just loved being able to hang out at nutrition break with my friends. High School was so stressful and having your friends there for you just made everything so much better. It has only been about two years, but I miss those days.

I think my most favorite memory was when we actually all got through the 6th grade. I couldn't believe we were going to go to the "bigger" school with older kids. Exciting and yet nerve-racking (is that a word?) at the same time.

My favorite memory was before christmas break in high school. There were two fireplaces near the main office that would be lit up and cozy for the holidays. I loved passing by and enjoying the fire. We didn't have our own fireplace so it was really cool to see.

I've always loved school. So much so that I became a teacher. When I was a little girl, I absolutely adored school supply shopping. New crayons - don't you love the smell of a new box of crayons?! - new books, new, colorful notebooks...new school supplies filled me with delight. And they still do! I actually love school supply shopping for both my kids and my classroom. Some things never change. My favorite school memory is of my first day of kindergarten. I still remember it so clearly! I was so nervous, and clinging to my mom, but then we entered the classroom. Sunny and bright, it was filled with books and educational toys and kids my same age! It was pure magic! Then my teacher, Mrs. Edgebrooke, came to welcome me with her warm smile and encouraged me to go to the circle time area. I kissed my mom and never looked back. I've never lost the joy in learning, and I'm happy to share it with my students and my own children today!

I actually remember my first day of Kindergarten. I was wearing a pink Izod dress. I have the little purse that I brought with me. I remember being with my friends as we walked ahead of our mother's and separating to go to our individual teachers. I loved my teacher, Ms. Humphreys. I remember her teaching us the words to the Carpenters song "Sing", still a favorite.

My favorite memory was learning to read! I absolutely LOVED to read when I was a child but as an adult I haven't really read any books for years. I need to get my head into a book and not be online so much.

My favorite school memory was high school graduation. I graduated with a high 3.8 + GPA, while holding down 2 jobs, having never gotten pregnant, arrested or in any serious trouble. It sounds simple, but almost all of my friends had a baby in high school and many people I knew got in to some kind of trouble during school, so I was proud of myself!

My favorite memory in school, would have to be when I was in third grade. I was a pretty shy kid back then and I was very quiet. Even though I was very shy I was chosen to sing in front of the whole third grade. The song was the Johnny apple seed song and although I do not remember any of the words now, I do remember wearing this adorable little white dress with apples on and my hair was in a side pony on the top, and I was so scared to do it but I did it! And not only did I do it it helped me come out of my shell and I am no longer the quiet shy little girl, that one silly moment changed my life forever!!!!

I think my favorite school memory (and funniest) is when I was going to pre-k, I was such a shy person that I had to have my mom come to class with me. I remember crying when she tried to leave! haha My teacher gave me this little pin of a doll and told me she would keep me company until I could see my mom again. It actually worked! :)

I have a vivid memory of the week before I entered junior high. My Mom took me clothes shopping for "teen" clothing. She bought me several pieces that worked together, one in purple shades (hey, it was the 1970's!) and another set in browns and rust colors. I loved that shopping trip, and after all these years, even though my Mom is gone, I still have that memory to warm me.
