School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

My memory is from kindergarten, we went to the fair for a field trip & our fair is the last in the state and it is in October. I remember the sounds, the scents, the taste of the great food, the animals, seeing the other kids ride the rides, (we weren't allowed then) & most importantly I remember it was the first major trip to an event like that without my parents & with my friends, it made me feel grown up. I will never forget that day, it's associated with a lot of my favorites, such as Fall being my favorite season, the smell of apples & cotton candy are a couple of my favorite scents & I adore animals.

In my Junior year of high school, my beloved French teacher announced to the class that she'd be retiring. Immediately we banded together, as her third year French students, to come up with enough money to get her a $100 gift card to one of her favorite French bakeries, as well as surprise her on her second-to-last day with balloons, flowers, and cards. She was touched by our gestures and could hardly teach the class without tears in her eyes (we were all bawling.) The next day as we entered her classroom for the final time, the scent of croissants was thick in the air. She had used the gift card we got her to buy pastries for the entire class. I'll never forget the most genuinely kind woman I've ever met, and I still look up to her to this day. Maintenant, je suis triste.

My favorite school memory is that on the first day of school every year, my mom would take a photo of me. It always was such a fun thing for us to do and a rite of passage so to speak. It is fun to go through them as an adult and watch myself grow each year!

My best (and worst) memory was transferring to a new high school in the middle of the year. I was scared and nervous because I didn't know anyone or anything about the school. The first day was horrible, but the second week I met the guy that would end up being my husband. High school sweethearts. We got married a year after we graduated and have been inseperable since the first time we met.

I vividly remember our family rituals--shopping for new school supplies, cutting up paperbags to make book covers, getting dressed up for the first day, and the annual first day of school photo (image being loaded separately!)

My favorite school memory is actually going shopping with my wonderful Mama . . . We didn't have a lot of money, since Mama was a school teacher and Daddy was a police officer, however, we had A LOT of love and a lot of fun! Mama would take me to this awesome store, (Watson's) in Somerset, Kentucky . . . She would let me try LOTS of beautiful outfits on, then she would let me choose whatever I wanted (within budget), then, we would go out to eat, which was huge luxury for us! Miss her so much! Love you, Mom!

Mine was my 5th grade Teacher Mr Borg he was a Railroad man and the only male teacher at the school who became a teacher. I was a 5' 10" shy awkward girl without many friends and so unsure of myself. He recognized this and from the first day went out of his way to make me feel special and make me the One in class. He let me take the roll, hold the flag for the salute run his errands. Win and Art contest in class. Anything to make me feel special for the first time and not so awkward. He really brought me out of my shell and I will always remember him and Thank him for that.

My favorite memory was when I was in kindergarten. My mom worked at my school teaching DARE to the 4th and 5th graders and they all knew who I was so often times at lunch one of them would come get me and bring me to sit with them for lunch! It was so much fun being able to eat lunch with the 'big kids'.

Believe it or not my favorite school memory was the first day at school after I got my glasses in the 4th grade. I could not believe how much better I could read the board and just see in general. I had no idea that the world could look so clear. Fortunately I didn't get any teasing and my grades improved so much I could not wait to go to school every day!

My elementary school used to post the class lists on the door right before school started. I used to walk to the school all the time and would be so excited to see what teacher I had and who else was in my class. Even when I was older and hated school I loved the anticipation of finding out what teachers/classes I had and comparing with my friends. Kind of a boring memory, but it was one of the things I really enjoyed :)

My fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Eads would let me come and go as I pleased. My grades were always very good and I finished my work quickly. She would let me go work in the library and I would enjoy the freedom and trust that she had given me, with care. There were times when the entire class would finish their work and she would ask me to go to the front of the class and sing. She loved for me to sing Silver Wings. I have never felt so appreciated and worthy of praise in any other class room. She gave me such self confidence and begged me to never stop singing. I sing in everything and everything I do now and I am so happy with my life. Being happy and not craving more is such a peaceful feeling and I wish I could tell her today, she is my favorite school memory. I have many years of school after 5th grade but, Mrs. Eads class just shines.

The first day of kindergarten, my teacher put me on the wrong bus home. I was having a blast with everyone on the bus until I was the last one, and the bus driver realized he still had someone to drop off with no more stops on his list! I was pretty good a giving him directions, along with the help of the school. I made it home MUCH later and my mom was terribly upset, I just thought it was a cool limo ride!
