School is an important rite of passage for everyone. To some kids it's fun and exciting, to others it's a boring daily routine; and at both their favorite and most despised place. But those of us who have been out of school, we know that school days are the best times of your life!

What’s your favorite school memory? A teacher? Recess? Your classroom crush? Back-to-school shopping? Playing team sports?

To get you started, here are favorite school memories from the team at SheSpeaks, and a few other notable people we like.

“I remember, on my first day of Kindergarden I was extremely nervous to take the bus for the first time. I sat right in the front, but when my older (and not always inclusive) brother boarded the bus, he took my hand and led me to the back to sit with him and his friends informing me that the back of the bus was "where the cool kids sat." I definitely needed that boost!" - Amy

"In the 4th grade I transferred to a new K-8 Catholic school. The uniforms (plaid jumpers) from both schools were so similar that my mom refused to order a new pair for me. Needless to say my plaid jumper stuck out from everyone else's until about the 7th grade!" - Theresa

"My family and I would always have a back to school dinner before the school year started." - John

"One of my favorite back-to-school memories is not actually going back to school but looking at the first day of school pictures months and years later - the kids are so cute and the new backpack for school always looks so crisp and ready for a new year of adventures!" - Ann

“My favorite part of going back to school was always shopping for school supplies. Being the nerd that I am, I loved having fresh notebooks and pens! Supplies shopping may have been my favorite part of summer.” - Emily

“I remember taking a picture with a group of friends at a “back-to-school” picnic hosted by the College. We weren’t told that the picture was going to be used for various marketing pieces for the school. So we were surprised to find that picture in every poster, view book and marketing material the entire time we were there. I was always recognized as the “poster-child” by people, but it really was a great picture that made for great marketing!” – Christine

My favorite school memory is spending time in my college dorm with amazing friends. My first year stayed in a dorm w. a program called WISE- Women In Science and Engineering. I made some of the most amazing life long friends there while staying up late night having study parties, movie nights and the like.

One of my favorite school memories was being asked by my 3rd grade teacher Ms. Schoenberg to go to the refrigerator in the teacher's lounge to retrieve her thermos of iced coffee. Only the "good" kids were allowed to leave the room to run errands so her asking me was a big deal because in second grade it seemed I could not do anything correctly. Ms Schoenberg did many things over the course of the year to build my confidence and make me like school again, and the iced coffee thermos errand was the starting point.

I would have to say I remember high school better than anything. I would have to say I dont have just one favorite memory. I loved sitting by the office during lunch with my older brother and his friends, I also loved sitting with my younger brother and his friends during my senior year. I graduated very early during my senior year, but loved the prom committee, yearbook club, BPA and all the other things I was involved in up until I left. I also got married in the middle of my senior year and 6 months later became pregnant with my oldest.

I remember the first day my husband showed up at my school as the cute new kid. I fell for him instantly! Took me 18 years, and each of us a first marriage, but now we're together. Married happily with twin sons!

I remember riding on the school bus. I thought I was such a big girl riding on it. After I got older of course, I didn't like it as much. I also remember Mrs. Caldwell, my third grade teacher. She was my favorite teacher. She always gave everyone a hug everyday before we went home.

I turned 5 in kindergarten and my teacher was Jane H. Hodnett. About 7 feet tall (or at least she seemed that tall to me!), with bright red hair cut in a pixie style, she continues to be my favorite teacher after all these years. My Mother came to school on my birthday, bringing Hoodsies and cupcakes. Ms. Hodnett made me a crown of purple construction paper, decorated with silver stars and a big 5 in the middle. I finally disposed of the crown when I was in my twenties, shedding a tear as I did so...

I was homeschooled for most of my education, and my favorite memories were always the field trips. We visited everything from a poultry slaughter house to taking a trip to England. Those memories have always been special.

I remember my first day of high school like it was yesterday!!! My big brother had the honor of driving me and my twin sister to school, except he really didn't want that honor! As soon as he pulled the keys out of the ignition, he sprinted to the school building with us shuffling behind him to keep up. That cool Junior did not want to be seen with two lowly Freshmen. We had no idea where to go or where our friends would be and we wanted our big bro to show us. As soon as we saw our friends, it was like he didn't exist any more. We all laugh to this day how he didn't want to be seen with us and we couldn't get away from him fast enough to get to our friends. Sibling love!

I was in 6th grade. I woke up very tired one morning and thought I could cheat and go back to bed a little longer. So of course I woke up late. I ran to get dressed and realized all of my pants were dirty. In a panic I ran to the dryer and found one pair. I tried to hurry and get them on but struggled for some reason with the right leg so I forced it through not really thinking about it. I ate quick and ran out the door making it to school on time. As I'm waiting lined up outside to go in I looked down and noticed a pair of underwear that said Monday all over them hanging out of my pant leg. This was why I struggled to get my pants on! So in a panic I went to an empty corner of the school and removed them and stuck them into my pocket. I lined back up and as we walked into the school they fell out of my pocket and onto the hallway floor where a couple people saw them and giggled. I thought I was going to die of embarrassment!

my favorite back to school memory is the summer before i started college...shopping for all the fun dorm stuff as well as school supplies was so wonderful. i still get nostalgic when all the mini fridges and comforter sets come out in the stores. My dad made it a tradition each year to take me to the store the week of move in and let me buy all kinds of supplies, both for school and living such as shampoo, soap, groceries, etc and it was always so fun to pick it all out and i always felt blessed to have a head start on my finances for the year with a stocked desk, closet and pantry!

I remember getting on the bus to go home on the last day of ninth grade. Sitting next to my best friend, I remember thinking that I had just completed the best, most fun year of school. I was so excited to see what else high school had in store for me.

My favorite school memories are the smell of fresh cut grass in the very early mornings on the playground when I was in first grade, the feeling of triumph and exhilaration when I won spelling bees, and winning class president in high school.
