From Snake Massages to Wine Baths: Spas That Offer Up Unusual Treatments

For those who are bored with their routine run of the mill wax or facial at the spa there are some more unusual treatments available that may be worth a try. From snake massages to bathing in wine, the website Bing recently released a list of some of the most “extreme spa treatments” available around the world.

Perhaps the most goosebump inspiring treatment; a snake massage offered in an Israel spa where non-venomous snakes are placed on an individuals back in order to relieve tension. Though spa-goers say the treatment is relaxing, it may be hard for those who fear snakes to sit through.

One spa in Japan encourages guests to take a dip in one of their many “beverage pools”. The amusement park-like spa offers green tea, wine, and coffee baths for adults and a wide array of water slides and rides for kids.

You don’t have to travel to another country to partake in an unusual spa treatment. Chicago’s Galos Caves offers guests 45-minute relaxation sessions in their floor-to-ceiling black sea salt covered rooms. The salt is believed to help with many ailments including skin and sinus issues.

For the rough-heeled set, a spa in Turkey (as well as a few here in the U.S.) will smooth the driest feet with their fish pedicure. By soaking a guest’s foot in a vat of water and allowing small toothless fish to nibble off the dead skin, the treatment is said to leave feet softer and smoother every time.

What do you think of the unusual spa treatments listed above?

Would you consider having any of these treatments done? What treatments do you prefer to get at your local spa?

I would not be able to do the snake treatment! I would freakout. The black salt one in Chicago I could do. Not sure I would be able to handle the fish one. I will probably just stick to traditional treatments. :)
