It's once again the time of year where romance is in the air. Whether you're a hopeless romantic or simply looking for something new and interesting to do with your significant other, we've got some great ideas to get your date night started!

Cook a Meal Together at Home
This idea is a classic way to spice up your date night. Use a unique theme for the meal to keep it interesting. For example, plan the meal using only aphrodisiac foods. You can find a good list of aphrodisiac foods here.

Create some fun and simple IOUs
Try making coupon books to trade with one another for things such as massages, homemade dinners, etc. Really, the possibilities for this one are endless.

Plan a Scavenger Hunt
Leave a trail of clues for your significant other to follow. Leave them with neighbors, or leave them at special places that mean something to the relationship. Have the last one lead to a restaurant or other romantic location where you'll be waiting with a gift or prize.

Cuddle Up with a Romantic Movie
There's nothing more relaxing than a night spent curled up with your significant other on the couch while a movie plays in the background. Here are some of our favorite romantic movies for just such an occasion:

  1. When Harry Met Sally: Harry and Sally have known each other for years, and are very good friends, but they fear sex would ruin the friendship.
  2. Sleepless in Seattle: A recently widowed man's son calls a radio talk show in an attempt to find his father a partner.
  3. The Notebook: A poor and passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman and gives her a sense of freedom. They soon are separated by their social differences.
  4. Casablanca: Set in unoccupied Africa during the early days of World War II: An American expatriate meets a former lover, with unforeseen complications.
  5. Say Anything: A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.
  6. Dirty Dancing: Spending the summer in a holiday camp with her family, Frances ('Baby') falls in love with the camp's dancing teacher.
  7. P.S. I Love You: A young widow discovers that her late husband has left her 10 messages intended to help ease her pain and start a new life.
  8. No Strings Attached: A guy and girl try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it's not long before they learn that they want something more.

Explore the Great Outdoors
Our members here at SheSpeaks have provided some great ideas for how to get outside and active for date night. Here's what a couple of them had to say:

"My husband and I got away one afternoon without the kids and we rented a canoe. We rowed out to a little island where we had lunch all by ourselves. We just took our time and enjoyed each other's company without cell phones or computers, free from any distractions. We had planned ahead of time and brought a small grill and marinated some steaks and cooked everything out on this island. It was so romantic and peaceful." - juliebw
"My favorite date idea is to go on a walk somewhere unusual. For instance, in my area we have a lot of nature trails and off the path beaches. Not only is it private and romantic, but it also takes us out of our element. We escape the everyday hustle and bustle. Don't forget to bring a camera too, there are some beautiful shots you can capture!" - maryki_12

For a fun and inexpensive date night, take your honey and yourself out to as many of the local "spots" and see how many pictures you can take of yourselves kissing in front of these locations! It'll get ur brains and hearts pumping trying to come up with as many new places as possible and hurrying to get to them. For a bonus, post them on Facebook as you go. Ur friends and family will get a laugh out of it and it will horrify ur kids...lol...Just make sure ur final destination of the night is a great little spot so you both can relax and review ur pictures.

I submitted a review for one of my favorites, 1954's Sabrina. Parts of the movie were filmed in my hometown here on Long Island, although I wasn't born yet. But it's still exciting to know! =-)

Every once in a while, me n my honeybun like to ditch work and get away for a long weekend. One time we went to upstate NY and found the cutest bed n breakfast to stay at. We visited the village's quaint shops and enjoyed a romantic picnic at the lake, even went rollerskating, which we haven't done in YEARS! We watched some of our favorite classic romantic movies (Sabrina, the ORIGINAL w/Audrey Hepburn & Humphrey Bogart; Casablanca; Roman Holiday and a classic romantic comedy Bringing Up Baby).

For a great inexpensive date night....Place a great tasting frozen pizza in the oven (our favorite pizza is Ristoante) and get a great inexpensive botle of wine like Simply Naked (Merlot). Set the table up with a nice table cover and some candle light. We love the Wood wick candles that make a nice crackling sound and smell great. Dim the lights. That is a great date night. When we can afford a night out we like going to our favorite restaraunt the Bone Fish Grill. Very comfortable, friendly and healthy choice for a nice evening together.

With the exception of the renting of a canoe, I don't see most of these as "date night" activities. The ideas suggested above are to easily put aside during the "date" to fall into old habits of doing housework, dealing with kids etc. Try something like a walk in the park or going for an ice cream cone or even just a discounted movie matinee. But a date really should be out of your everyday environment.

For a fun date night together, go to your local cake/candy supply store, pick up some heart-shaped candy molds and high quality chocolate. Don't forget to pick up a sweet Valentine box to wrap up the special chocolates for your special someone! Easy Instructions: Place chocolate pieces in plastic bottle with open tip, melt in microwave for 30 seconds on medium high, stir, repeat until all chocolate is melted. Fill candy molds with chocolate, and tap mold lightly on counter to release air bubbles. Place filled candy mold in fridge for 5-10 minutes and flip over onto tray. Arrange your handmade chocolates in the beautiful candy box and tie with ribbon. Give to your sweetheart and watch the sparks fly.
