Who says a time out should only be for children?

Jokes aside, a few minutes a day to disconnect and clear our minds is priceless. The opportunity to take a few breaths, relax our shoulders and just sit still can be exactly what we need to recharge and finish the day with excitement and a smile on our face.

It's easier said than done, we know! Crazy schedules, friends, children, spouses, and not to mention today's technology almost always keeps you connected to something or someone. But the benefits of finding that time, even just for a few minutes, can make you feel like a whole new person, like your old self again, maybe even like superwoman.

Research has shown (and supporters can attest) that a little time and effort can go a long way. Practicing yoga, stretching, meditating and running a nice bubble bath are just a few methods of how we can disconnect, and relax. But you, our members, are really the experts. You're the multi-tasking gurus. You're the working professional, stay-at-home mom and party planner all wrapped into one and you do it day after day.

So we want to know, how do you do it  ALL and still find time to disconnect? How do you find a few minutes a day or every couple of days for "Me Time" to rejuvenate your mind and body? Do you have help, set the calendar, or stick to a routine or are you self-aware and just know when it's time to retreat on your own.  Do you find it's easy to put down your cell phone or does someone else unravel your fingers from the keyboard?

Share your experience with us by posting how you disconnect and how you reflect, and you'll be entered to Win 1 of 5 cool relaxation gadgets.  While many relaxation methods can be done with only a few minutes of peace and quiet, we wanted to compile some cool gadgets to help inspire you to find those few minutes a day for yourself.

The contest starts Wednesday, October 5th and ends Monday, October 10th at midnight EST. There will be 5 lucky winners with one winner receiving the grand prize, the Sharper Image Foot Massager, valued at over $50.

Here are the prizes:

Sharper Image foot massager ($50 value)

Aromatherapy Vaporizer with Oil ($40 value)

Conair Foot bath with bubbles and heat ($20 value)

AND

2 Motorized Scalp Massagers ($12 value each)

Good luck!

I always like to snuggle in bed with my down comforter and a good book to escape from reality for awhile...the best way to relax and unwind after a busy day.

Although, almost impossible, I do find " me time" every day when I go for my much needed runs.. Nothing clears my head like a run does.. So, somehow, each day..wether itts having the next door neighbor's daughter watch my two boys(4 and 6) so I can fit in a quick 3 miles, of if it's having a nice long run while they are both in school..it is something that I HAVE to do..or elce I am not the best mom/ wife I can be.

I am a 37 yr old wife/mom and to relieve stress I tweet to all my twitter friends. I wish I could do yoga but I'm disabled and walk w/a cane...just had spinal fusion and a disc replacement...still have major pain!! So I try and do breathing exercises every other day with my exercise ball. I also enjoy reading at night when it's quiet after the kids go to bed(:

I usually go to the gym, go for a walk or listen to music to disconnect and relax. I also watch sports but sometimes that can be stressful!!

I have 4 kids, so finding "me" time is close to impossible! But, in the fall, when I do find a little bit of time I like to light a few candles, listen to my kind of music (not the kids :D ), and have a cup of hot tea. My moment only lasts maybe 20 minutes, but it's just enough to re-energize me to make it thru the day.

The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to take care of your health. I am a teacher a mom, and a wife. My stress level can sky rocket if I don't set some"ME TIME". Yoga works wonders for me. Then I relax with a good book and a glass of wine. This helps me revive myself so I can continue to take care of others.

A GOOD BOOK! Nothing beats unwinding after a long day and getting in some "me time" like escaping into another world. Whether soaking in the tub, killing the mins waiting for my son's bus from school or curled up in bed underneath the covers, I love to read. :)

I recharge my internal solar batteries by sitting outside in the sun for a good 30minutes as soon as I get home. I'll sit in a nice comfy chair, open a good book, and enjoy some iced water. Talk about a relaxing experience. The warmth of the sun is rejuvenating. Stress goes away for these few minutes before the dinner chaos begins. We live in the northeast. With working fulltime, it always seems that the weekends are reserved for terrible weather. These warm sunny days are a blessing.

I lay on my bed with my neck on my "swoopy" pillow from Brookstone (memory foam, big round ridge for neck support). I put a light throw blanket over me. Then I put an herb-filled eye pillow over my eyes and just lay there, and breathe in the smell of the herbs.. I may may listen to cable news or the weather channel, very quietly. Ah-h-h-h-h.

I ice skate at a nearby indoor rink in which I'm the only person skating. Although I'm not that great of a skater, there's something exhilerating about having the rink all to myself.

At the end of my days, I try to relax in my room and get caught up with some reading. I try to undwind and shut the world out.

It is quite relaxing, for me, to plug in the ol IPOD and take a walk in the forest preserve. They have some great paths around bodies of water and beautiful greenery.I used to laugh at peeople when they would tell me exercise helps you to unwind, until I tried it firsthand. Music always calms the mind.

I disconnect and reflect with a good book at a quiet sushi restaurant and a glass of sake. Cynthia.Richardson@azbar.org
