A Resort With Blonde Ambition

No matter how good your resume looks it may not be enough to land you a job at a new resort set to open in the exotic Maldives. A Lithuanian firm called Olialia (pronounced ooh-la-la) plans to open a resort on the island and employ exclusively blonde women to run it.

A recent report from CNN discusses Olialia’s plans for the resort set to open in 2015 and the public’s reaction.  The firm has also stated that there will be an airline established to take tourists to the resort that will also be employed exclusively by blonde flight attendants and pilots.

One spokeswoman for the company, Giedre Pukiene, discusses some of the controversial plans for the luxury resort.  Pukiene says, “There are plans to build a high-class blondes resort with hotels, entertainment, and spa centers on the island.  Other important things - like and education (center) called ?Pretty Women’ - will teach female guests to always be perfect and look great.”

It has not yet been made clear whether women will have to be naturally blonde or dye their hair in order to work there. Pukiene has spoken to the BBC about her company which is run and staffed by blondes saying, “But we find that when women with dark hair work here, they are surrounded by all these beautiful blondes, so eventually they end up going blonde too.

So far, response to the plans for the resort have been mixed with some people arguing that having employees dye their hair blonde is not much different than asking them to be clean shaven while others find it both sexist and racist to staff an entire resort with one “type” of person.

What do you think of the plans to open a resort staffed with all blonde women?

I am a natural red head. I don't see the problem with this resort. If you do not want to take part in a resort that only has blonde women running it, oh gosh, its a real brain jerker isnt it?, then DONT VACATION THERE! Come one, seriously, if they want it to happen and they spend enough money on it, the building is going up. It's as simple as that. Either enjoy it, or don't. Personal preference and choice. You don't have to participate in the resort.

Oh my God, it's hell on earth! Everybody run for your lives!!! An all-blonde spa that promotes vanity and sexism; are you kidding me! For me, that's a nightmare. I am totally disgusted by this place!

What about Hooters? LOL Would they hire a flat chested fat girl in her fifties and make her wear those hot pants and tiny T-shirts? For that matter, would they hire a guy? Does this resort also hire blonde guys? Yes, it's stupid. But it's free enterprise. Keep the politics of stupidity out of it.

I thought long and hard about this...hmmm... It sounds like a marketing technique. Many companies outside of the US do have similar standards. I think it is a probably a problem for people in the US because it is blondes being singled out. If it were tall girls, short girls, fit guys, silky long dark hair, ect... it wouldn't be such a problem. (all mentioned are standards for various companies outside US). One example is the flight attendants on Asian airlines...

Let me rephrase- people of my own ethnicity are generally not blonde.

Finally a refuge from dumb blonde jokes and Nazi comparisons! (read above) There are "theme" resorts and retreats all over the world. This is harmless fun. Hopefully I'll get some sun in my hair and come home blonder. I am from an ethnic community that does not include many natural blondes, so I have always been aware of it as though I were a unicorn or a freak of nature. I wonder if people on this resort really will have more fun!

?But we find that when women with dark hair work here, they are surrounded by all these beautiful blondes, so eventually they end up going blonde too.?-- Seriously?! First, not all blondes are "beautiful" and second, can we say self esteem issues? PS- I am a natural blonde...

Ok I don't care if you know that they only will hire blonde women go find a job some where else. Its there business let them run how they see fit if they ask for certain qualifications in all jobs this one just happens to be you have to be blonde so what! The only people mad are the ones who aren't blonde. Hilarious!

I find it to be both sexes and races and belittling to all women for that matter. I also find it to be a horrible example for young girls who don't have these qualifications.
