Miley Cyrus Goes From Disney To Sex Symbol

Most moms and kids know her as Disney’s child star "Hannah Montana, but 17-year-old pop sensation Miley Cyrus has been looking a lot more adult lately.  She has fallen under a lot of scrutiny lately for the provocative way she has been dressing and performing at her shows.  After all, she is not yet 18 and in the eyes of the public, still a child (though her appearance would put her years ahead).  Many are reminded of the way Britney Spears went from Disney star to sex symbol at a very young age.

It is clear that Cyrus is trying to change her image from child star to adult pop star, but many wonder if it is too soon for such a transformation and worry that she is just another example of the way children and women become victims of exploitation in the media.

In 2008, a then 15-year-old Cyrus drew controversy when she posed topless (covered by a sheet in the front) for Vanity Fair.  Many people at the time felt she was too young to be portrayed in a sexual manner and Cyrus went in front of the public to say she was embarrassed at the way the photos turned out.  Fast forward two years and she appears to be flaunting her sexuality while parents still worry that Cyrus is sending the wrong message to her young fans.

Famous celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton, is in hot water now for posting "up-skirt" images of Miley Cyrus to his Twitter account.  It is possible for Hilton to face legal charges due to the fact that Cyrus is still a minor and protected under sexual exploitation laws.

What do you think of the way Miley Cyrus is conducting herself in front of the media?  Do you think the way she dresses and performs is appropriate for a 17-year-old?

Do you think she is sending the wrong message to her young fans?

I think that she should take her role model status a little more seriously. We persecute athletes all the time for drinking and driving, drugs, abuse, etc. Because they are role models for our children. How many young girls out there were and are HUGE Hannah Montanna/Miley Cyrus fans? I understand not wanting to be looked at as a little girl anymore but she is giving young tweens the idea that it is ok to dress out that way. I am not ok with my daughter dressing inappropriatly.

I am all for making a fashion statement and dressing as you please to make yourself feel better not only as a person but a human being, but I tend to agree with chickadeecj on this as well. Sleazy is something I would call anyone that is not an adult and chooses to flaunt her body in the manner Cyrus has been doing recently. I was under the impression that her father was not only her manager but her agent as well. During this young Lady's career it was easy to see where the dad himself began to forget the innocent goodhearted image his daughter was portraying and then where the dollar signs took over. How sad that yet again we are well on our way of seeing a replay of the whole Brittney scene

I have 5 daughters and would be horribly embarrassed not only for them but us if any of they ever acted out that way. Our girls range in age from 14 to 23 and I am grateful that every single one of them is a lady! "don't judge a book by it cover"...well sorry but that is the way of the world. I would be ashamed of myself if I was her parents. How she is growing up is 100% a reflection on how she is being raised! Morels are taught, self worth is taught and behaviors are taught as well. It's a sad day when a little girls father is more worried about a paycheck then his daughter and that is exactly what seems to be the case in this situation.

Yes everyone has to grow up at sometime, and just because she was born into stardom with a "good girl" image doesn't mean she needs to keep it, but man she should have slowly turned into what she did. I watched her recent concert on tv and there were kids who had to be 10 years old there while she trusted on stage feeling herself up. Young girls are still looking up to her wether she asked for it or not . Maybe she should have a disclaimer on her tickets.

I think Miley's parents need to curb this while they still can. I was hoping she wouldn't do this kind of thing.

Apparantly Miley's fans don't think that she is being a bad role model. I remember when Hannah Montana first came out. Miley was such a little doll. She still seemed sweet when she got older. But when she and Mandy started to make fun of Demil Lovato, and Selena Gomez, I knew that she wasn't as sweet as she seemed. Now look at her. She grew up way too fast. It is not hard for a Disney star to step out of that child-like figure. Look at Hilary Duff, look at Raven Symone'. They didn't have to dress risque or sing vulgar songs to show the world that they've grown up. Miley shouldn't have to worry about being a bad role model. Miley should worry about becoming Lindsay Lohan in a few years.

I am 20 and i totally understand miley ! I love her !!! She is an awesome singer and actress. She is going through that aqward im a teen but turning into a woman stage. every girl goes through that stage and you are just seeing it on TV. I think she is a beautiful girl and i understand where parents are upset because there little 10 yr old girls are following miley and here she is dressed like this. but mothers should explain to their daughters that every girl changes. i sont think miley will be another britney. i think she is smarter than that. lets hope she doesnt prove me wrong lol

This is a great issue. I think although she claims she's "growing up" doesn't mean sexy outfits are okay attire. I don't care what age you are, you shouldn't wear that! Also, tons of younger kids watched Hannah Montana, even though the show is ending doesn't mean the fans stop loving. They like her, they want to know more. If a show is on with her they'll watch it! I don't want my kids watching her prance around in skimpy outifts.

I think because Miley Cyrus audience is younger and Miley Cyrus is still a minor I think that it is inappropriate for her to conduct herself in an adult image as she is doing. She is sending the wrong message to young girls and I think that she should stick to her audience base until she develops a different audience. Teens and young adults are not into Miley Cyrus as much as younger girls because she started off as Hannah Montana which is a child's program. So with that being said, I think that she should be loyal to her audience who made her and not disappoint that base.

I think that she is going a little tooooo fast in her desperation to become an adult singer. She doesn't seem to care about what her young fans will take from this, and I think it's somewhat carelss. I mean, she's kinda making the mistake of selling herself to the public, something you never want to do because looks fade and people then will not honor you for your singing talents but intsead for your body, and I think that this is where her parents should interevene. They should remind her that she just a kid and that she still has child fans. The transition between child star and adult singer is tough, but you can't go about it by taking your top off. That's only going to get you so far!

Its just natural for her to be growing up... just because she played a disney character doesnt men the girl should forever be frozen in time as that character. Miley Cyrus is a growing young woman and most likely she will make decisions in her career that reflect that.

Yes, Miley can do what every she wants but when it comes to Hannah Montana its a big deal? I don't get? Ok she's 17 shes growing up, but you have to take recognition that even a 17 year old can't wear tight short-shorts, shirts that show short tops, bras, belly button, and breast! I mean wouldn't you as a parent disapprove of this? I mean she can dress like that when shes 21 no one will care what she will do by then, but one step at a time please!
