The End Of The Road For Oprah?

To call the news shocking may be a bit of a stretch, but when Oprah Winfrey recently announced that she will be closing down her show in 2011 it felt like the end of an era for lots of folks.  Winfrey, after all, has held down the top spot of daytime talk for almost a quarter of a century now.  In the days following Winfrey’s big announcement many began to question what would be next for the the media icon and who, if anyone, would replace her?

While making the big announcement that she planned to end the show, Winfrey answered the question on everyone’s mind; why now?  Winfrey said, "Here is the real reason: I love this show, this show is my life, and I love it enough to know when it’s time to say goodbye.  It’s the perfect number, the exact right time."

If you think this news means Winfrey will soon be retiring you are probably wrong.  It is being reported that after finishing up her final season of the Oprah show she will focus more of her energy on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).  And with her recent success as an executive producer on the much-talked-about film "Precious", Winfrey may have more film projects in her future.

Almost as soon as Winfrey announced her show was leaving, the media began to question who would replace her.  Some names that have come up have been Ellen DeGenerous , Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, etc.  There is also speculation that Winfrey’s replacement could be someone entirely unknown.  Whoever it is, there is no doubt that they will have big shoes to fill.  In the last 24 years, Winfrey has proven that she can have a powerful voice in the media from covering books that soon become best-sellers to airing a show on mad-cow disease before dairy farmers watched sales plummet.

What do you think of the news that Oprah Winfrey will soon end the Oprah show?

Do you have someone in mind who you think would make a good replacement?

For many years, Oprah has provide us with various helpful topics that pertained to everyone, sometime or another. She is a very caring and compassionate woman. She has gained so much but she has given so much. God has truly used her to pass on many blessings to people that were in need. This woman is so phenomenally wonderful. She has shown to be very unselfish (although some people may beg to differ). Oprah has set an example for many of us, not only for women, not only for people of color, but for people of different nationalities and cultures. I hope and pray that the next person that follows her, will pick up where she left off and continue to carry the torch. She is a very classy lady! Oprah, I commend you! I know this is not the end for you!

No one can replace Oprah, however, with her new TV station she will be able to concentrate more on subjects that we really want to hear. She is requesting subjects on her website. I will be watching OWN myself especially the medical advice by Dr, Oz.

Oprah's ratings prove what people want in a talk show. We want to talk about real life. We want to be informed. We want to be entertained. We want to have access to products and services that may help or enhance our state of being. Oprah gave her viewers just that without insulting their intelligence. I can't think of who could replace her . I hope it's not Tyra.

I've been very diappointed in this last season of shows since she anounced he ending show the energy is gone and the guests and topics are lame, perhaps shes burned out on doing this show. replacing her would be hard,i think there are too many talk shows as it is ,i'd like to see a different format perhaps a show geared to promoting family interactin,a show that has meals moms and kids cook together, crafts, family discussions on kids issues with peers ect,

I am ok with this. She is every where all the time. A little burned out over here. Don't feel she will really disappear - for those who are fans.

I am really going to miss Oprah on the air. No one is going to be able to be the same as she has for all these years.

I think Oprah is self absorbed. She gives advice about life , but she never married, never had children, how does she know real life?

I don't think anyone needs to replace her. She does a lot of good things for a lot of people, but there are a lot of other people out there doing the same (most with a lot less money and resources). I've never been a follower of her show.

Oprahwill most likely still be in the news and focusing on other projects she has. I have no idea who will follow in her footsteps.... I am sure there will be a lot of ladies able and willing to step up.... I like Oprah

She will be missed. She has done so much good in her lifetime. Times change people change, things change. she will be replaced and people will get use to her in her new role whatever she decides to do I am sure she still has much more good she wants to do maybe in another way. God Bless her for all that she is and all that she has done. she will find what life has for her to do next.

TV will be strange without the show but the public will quickly forget and replace that show with some thing else. Would be neat to see some of the very first Oprah shows re run again.

I would love to go to her last Christmas shows, and all her favorite things! My 85 year old Mom watches her everyday.
