TikTok has taken off this year. In the last few weeks with most people staying home, more and more people are making TikTok videos and watching TikTok videos than ever before.

What makes TikTok so much fun? Read on for more info to help you get started on TikTok - plus, enter our giveaway for a chance to win $50 to order takeout or delivery, so you have something delicious to munch on while scrolling TikTok.

What is TikTok?

It's a social network app for sharing short, user-generated videos. Popular content includes comedy, dance, and lip-synching videos. Heart-warming content, beauty videos and pet content also tends to go viral.

Your TikTok homepage will show you popular videos that you can like or comment on, and you can use the discover tab to find trending hashtags or search for specific users or hashtags. TikTok learns what types of videos you like over time, so your homepage gets more and more personalized for you.

What makes TikTok special? Blogger Amiyrah Martin says "It's a fun outlet where you don't have to curate everything, if you don't want to. Authenticity and genuine excitement for the platform is encouraged and rewarded, which is a nice change to what we are used to on social media."

Ready to start posting?

Getting started is easy! Just tap the " + " button at the bottom of the app, choose the length of the video you want to film, and press the red circle to begin recording. From there, you can add music, text, filters, and more before you post.

AudreyMcClelland, whose TikTok account features easy and cute hairstyles for kids, just reached over 1 million likes on her videos. Her advice on creating TikToks: "My tip for someone new on TikTok is to be consistent. Consistency is the key here. Create videos that excite you and make you happy, but stick with it!"

I use TikTok to continue my dancing! I am on the Exec Committee for my dance club at college, but since I've been home, I had not been dancing much. But on TikTok there are new dance challenges and tutorials every day that I come across! I'm obsessed now! What's better than the dancing are all the cute animal videos that I CANNOT get enough of!
