With Mother's Day around the corner, we were curious to know how the SheSpeaks community feels about the annual holiday that honors not only them, but also their mothers and grandmothers, and so we sent out a survey to our members.

Overall consensus?  Mother’s Day is really meant to enjoy family, be together and to appreciate all the things moms do. And in particular they added:

How do you plan to celebrate Mother's Day?

67% - Spending time with my kids
31% - Spending time with my own mom/mother-in-law
26% - Brunch out with the family
  25% - Sleeping in
18% - Some time by myself
  11% - Breakfast in bed

What type of gift do you hope to receive this Mother's Day?

41% - An activity we can do together
  40% - A Card
  29% - Flowers
  25% - Spa certificate
  24% - Jewelry
  19% - Candy/Food
12% - Technology (i.e., new phone or tablet)

In general, do most marketers' messages about Mother's Day resonate with you?

57% -Yes, the messages resonate with me
43% - No, I do not connect with the marketing messages

Many said that the holiday is just too commercialized and that all they really want is to bring it back to the basics, back to the true meaning of what the day means.

And some just want to be told they’re a good mom, get a reprieve from diaper duty, or even have "an entire hot cup of coffee"!

I agree with the feedback but I expect breakfast in bed! It's the one day of the year that it happens.

I don't expect a gift just to spend time with the family without the hassle of the everyday routing cleaning, cooking's and so on.
