The '80s Are Back: Here's What to Embrace & What to Avoid! Plus, Win '80s Retro Candy!
Share Tweet

There have been hints of a comeback in recent years but now it is official. The 1980's is the lastest fashion trend.

Yes, the 80's are back - think shoulder pads, leg warmers and Madonna cassette tapes. But whether you lived through it before, or you were not around to be a witness, there are several ways you can get into the style, without going over the top. Read on to find out how.

Plus, tell us your favorite - or least favorite - '80s look and you'll have the chance to win an '80s Candy Gift Box, full of delicious retro memories, including Bottle Caps, Lemonheads & Wax Fangs!

Embrace it: Customized Demin Jackets

Demin jackets, especially acid washed, were all the rage. And to make them even more personal, they were lovingly decorated with patches and spray paint. Luckily, personal style is also big in 2017. Feel free to rock your denim jacket - and even add a little bling.

Avoid it: Stirrup Pants

Leggings are fine, but not the kind that has a strap that slips beneath your foot. No reason for your pants to get tucked in to your high-tops anymore.

Embrace it: Neon and Sequins

In the '80s, brighter was better. It was important to attract attention and make a statement. We should follow that direction and not be afraid to shine! But this year, try keeping it to just one piece, and not the entire outfit.

Avoid it: Thick, Piled On Make-Up

Everything was more intense in the '80s, so it's no surprise that the make-up was too, especially the eye shadow which came in shades of blue, purple and pink - sometimes all of those colors at once. Brightly colored make-up is still used now, which is great, but this time it could be a little more blended and a lot more subtle.

Embrace it: Off the Shoulder Tops

Back then, we cut sweatshirts at just the right width, so that it could drape over one shoulder. Of course, a ton of plastic jewelry was then the perfect accessory. You can still wear dresses and shirts that have a fun off-the-shoulder look. Just try to avoid scissor marks and that mountain of jelly bracelets.

Avoid it: High, Permed, Rock-Hard Hair

No explanation needed.

As an 80s kids, the worst thing my mom could have bought me were jelly shoes. Those things came in so many colors and on the cheap. Wear them all day and your feet would smell and there would be grime at the bottom of your feet due to sweat. Over time the tiny plastic near the toes would break and you would end up at school with your pinky toe hanging out. THE WORST!!!!

I am baffled why stirrup pants are back? I used to love them in the 80s because I have long legs, now I actually like the cropped pant look much better. It reminds me of the 50s look. But I guess everything goes around and comes back around

I really didn't like 80's fashion, especially big shoulder pads.

My least favorite is Big Hair. I am probably biased because I have thin hair. I always wished I could dance and flip my hair.

I'm totally into Neon Colors and denim jackets! They are very flattering! I am glad leg warmers, big Chucky socks, and leggings are in! I like to be warm and comfortable! Of course my shirts are much longer with leggings on! Joggers are now my thing and they look great with funky socks too! I grew up in the 80's and like the little pieces I have mixed into my wardrobe!
