This is a traditional cake, a habit that has been running in our family for more than 5 generations and I'm pretty sure in many other Romanian families.
Raisins and Turkish delight
Mix yeast with a tablespoon of sugar, 100 ml milk and flour, let it triple its size for 30 minutes .
Then boil the milk, adding in the sugar and melted margarine.
Separate yolks from whites. Mix the dough with 6 egg yolks, 2 egg whites and a pinch of salt and put in the refrigerator.
Add one by one the ingredients and mix well with your hands until a homogeneous dough is formed.
Leave dough aside for 1 hour, covered with a towel and meanwhile prepare the filling.
Preparing the filling:
Mix grounded nuts with cocoa and egg, well beaten then add raisins.
Divide dough into 4 parts and then each part into two.
Spread each side and put 1 /4 of the filling result over that piece plus Turkish delight then roll the 2 parts together as if you make bread.
Prepare baking trays, put each of the quarters in and leave aside for another 30 minutes, covered with a towel. After 30 minutes brush them with egg and sprinkle sesame and/or poppy seeds and sugar on top.
Bake for 30 minutes at 190 degrees , in a preheated oven.
