Once upon a time my husband and I were an early married couple and we got to travel. Back in those days our house was not overtaken by all things big and plastic AKA children’s toys, but we were still crunched for space. We decided to start buying a Christmas ornament when we would visit a new place. It was an easy choice of a souvenir and thus started a new tradition. It was fun to select them, plus they are tiny enough to throw in a travel bag and take home. On my husband’s birthday trip to Maryland, we bought a really cool crab ornament. When we travelled to San Francisco for our honeymoon we selected a cable car and when our son took his first trip to Disney of course we got a Mickey Mouse ornament.
Yesterday, we put up our tree. It was so fun to see the ornaments and reflect on the memories of those special trips, especially the ones we took as a couple. Sometimes when you are in that day to day routine of being a stay at home mom you forget about the life you had, this reminded me of the days when my husband and I were starting our own life together and made me excited for new adventures to come with our family of four! Do you have any ornament traditions in your family?
Every year my family and my husband family does an ornament exchange. We all go out a buy an ornament and wrap it up. Then we have a drawing to get someone elses ornament. We also let the kids into the exchange. It is really fun to see all the different ornaments that people buy, plus we have a different ornament on our tree every year.

my mom has ornaments that she passed down to me and i will pass down to my kids.
Every year, my husband and I purchase an ornament that symbolizes the year behind or the year ahead. It is such a sweet way to reflect on years gone by and hopes to come!
I still have ornaments that my children made when they were small. My youngest is now 33 years old. I started buying ornaments for my grandchildren when the first was born 17 years ago and either start a series for them or buy an ornament for something special going on in their lives that year. When they marry, they will have a tree full of ornaments.
That is a great idea about ornaments when you travel. At our work we use to make ornaments and have an ornament party and everyone would get an ornament made by me and I would get all these wonderful ornaments from them. We would also have food. It use to be fun, but over the years it has not been happening. I need to next year start my own ornament party from home and invite friends.
