Ever since the passing of Fashion Police’s host and legendary comedian Joan Rivers the show has seemed cursed with controversy. Both Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin have left the show after Osbourne accused co-host Giuliana Rancic of making racist comments about Zendaya’s dreads on the red carpet. And now Joan Rivers’ daughter and executive producer of Fashion Police Melissa Rivers is speaking out about Griffin’s departure and how she feels the comedian dishonored her mother’s legacy.

Fox News reports about Melissa’s recent comments regarding Griffin sullying her mother’s legacy and the future outlook for E!’s Fashion Police. Griffin released the a statement regarding her departure from Fashion Police saying, “I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards difference.”

It wasn’t until Melissa recently spoke with Hoda Kotb that she opened up about Griffin as a replacement for her late mother and how Griffin’s statements upon her early departure made her feel. Melissa said, “I’m just gonna say it wasn’t a match on a lot of levels.” She added, “My biggest complaint was the feeling that she kind of s - - t all over my mother’s legacy in her statement on leaving. And I know that was not an intentional reading of it, but that’s how I felt . . . by calling the comedy and the style of it old-fashioned. It was like, I understand what you were doing, you’re trying to save yourself, but don’t crap all over my mother to do it.”

Though it seems the show is destined for failure, Melissa is hopeful about the future. She explains that the show will go on and their biggest mistake was not taking enough time after the passing of her mother to rethink the dynamic. She says, “We were a family, cast and crew . . . and we went back too soon. And just like a family, when the matriarch dies, the sisters started fighting; and someone tried to marry in — not a great match, live and learn. ‘Fashion Police’ was a little jewel and it was the last piece I had of my mother . . . I felt like all these people were so out of control, including the person who made the allegation about racism. They took the last thing I had and smashed it.”

What do you think about Melissa Rivers’ comments regarding Kathy Griffin’s departure?
