Does Makeup Matter Too Much?

Many of us have probably thanked the makeup gods on those mornings when we roll out of bed to find we don’t quite recognize the tired eyes staring back in the mirror. But what if you feel this way every morning? Jezebel reports about a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of The Renfrew Center Foundation that shows nearly half of us, 44 percent, feel negatively about ourselves when not wearing makeup.

Makeup is so mainstream in our culture that many women feel naked if they go even one day without it. And who can blame them when we hear about a scientific study suggesting women who wear makeup are perceived by others to be more competent, likeable, and trustworthy.

There have been some efforts in recent years to encourage women to ditch the lipstick every once in a while. SheSpeaks reported about a trend known as "Makeup Free Mondays" where women were challenged to come to work au natural once a week. The idea is that going makeup-free every once in a while can help a woman realize her inner beauty and maybe change the overall perception that professional women need cosmetics to appear competent.

How do you feel about your makeup free appearance?

What is your beauty routine before work? Have you ever gone to work sans makeup?

I have done to work without makeup and it felt really good. I had a few spare minutes of free time and it was nice. Women today are so stuck on the idea that if you don't wear makeup in public that you're not you or that you're ugly which is completely not true. I have a good beauty routine of cleaning and moisturizing during the AM and PM. At that point, I usually put on basic makeup and nothing too extreme. I think that every woman should feel good about their inner self because that is what truly matters. I do love makeup. I just think that even if you wear makeup you also should feel good about yourself because that will shine through too.

For me I enjoy wearing makeup and the way it makes me feel. I feel pretty and put together. I do not wear makeup on the weekends unless I'm going out with friends or my husband. This is a personal choice and if it makes you feel good then great, if not thats great to!

Alot of women do put too much emphasis on their makeup. Feeling the need to wear makeup every single day is excessive. You shouldn't have to paint on a new face just to go outside. It's nice to wear makeup every once in a while for special occasions, but to need to wear it every single day is ridiculous.

Being a stay at home mom, I go makeup less everyday. When I was teaching, I use to be one of those who felt "naked" without it and would never leave the house if I didn't have any on. I feel a little foolish about all of it now and I'm starting to realize as I grow older, that true beauty is definitely on the inside. I can much more about what people think of me as a mom and wife, than what I look like.

For the most part, I do like to put makeup on; but even the days I am just to tired or lazy I feel the same I don't feel any different. However, I'm sure whenever I start getting wrinkles and such it will become very important. My mom just turned 40 doesn't wear makeup and looks great so well see.

I think we need to realize that we are beautiful. we are always comparing ourselves to other women and how they look. It makes us feel the need to wear make-up to even compare to her. I tend to wear lip gloss and eye make-up about 5 days a week. i would love to get out of this habit.

I do not like myself without makeup. Nor when my hair is not done. I feel confident when I feel that I look good. My skin has sunspots so it is very uneven without makeup and my eyes feel naked without eyeliner or mascara. And I am the kind of girl who will run to the grocery store in pj (with Bra) and slippers lol!

I am a stay a home mom so I don't need to walk around with a full have of makeup. The days I need yo run errands I only use tinted moisturizer, concealer and mascara. I love makeup but I also love my skin so I try not smother it with heavy products.

I typically wear no makeup beyond lip balm. Occasionally, if and event seems to require the use of makeup I will wear lipstick, mascara and eye shadow. I find that I do not like the way makeup feels on my face. It feels unnatural and uncomfortable. I am also not usually willing to put unhealthy mixtures of chemicals on my face. Most days, I am happy with how I look with out makeup.

I never leave the house w/o mascara. Moisturizer is a daily thing. In the winter I will wear a tinted moisturizer some days. If I am in need of a real pick me up, I wear foundation and eyeliner... :)

I'm a stay at home mom so I don't wear makeup everyday unless I have a teachers conference or going out for lunch with the girls but besides that moisturizer and gloss is all i use.

I do not feel comfortable being in public without makeup, besides while I am working out. I would NEVER go into work without makeup.
