Colorful Biscuits

Makes: 12 biscuits

Description: This will teach you how to take a simple biscuit recipe, and turn it into a spectacular and colorful display for parties or no special reason at all.

Ingredients:
3 cups  all-purpose flour
1/2 cup  white sugar
1 cup  milk
1 stick  butter
2 tablespoons  baking powder
1 teaspoon  cream of tartar
1 teaspoon  salt
3 containers  colored icing
4 varieties  press-on decorations, candy, sprinkles, nuts

Instructions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large bowl add flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter. Add milk a little bit at a time, and mix using just enough milk until the biscuits will hold together when formed. Depending on your preferences and the size of your counters, make the biscuits in the way that is best for you. Traditionally, use a floured surface, turn out dough, roll to an even thickness, and using a floured biscuit cutter, make 12 biscuits. If you have a tiny kitchen, a remedy that works for me is to simply grab a piece of dough, carefully flatten it using the palms of my floured hands, and make 12 biscuits. Place biscuits 1 inch apart, and bake on an ungreased baking sheet until golden and cooked, about 10 minutes. Let cool, and transfer to any serving plate, tier, or pretty arrangement. Decorate the biscuits using your choice of icing colors, decorations, nuts, candy, cookie pieces, etc. Sometimes you can get really imaginative and creative and use paper decorations, which was done in the photos. If you use paper decorations, be sure you remove them before serving.
