It is very expensive, but I have a tradition of shipping F*%K CANCER brownies to close friends when they are fighting cancer. It doesn't solve a thing, but it is a tangible expression of my love from a distance.
My friend was going through a lot of anxiety. I was there when she wanted to talk or just wanted someone there. I know she’d be there for me too.
At First Steps, I get to support so many amazing families, but one story that really sticks with me is about a mom who walked through our doors feeling completely lost. Her child had just been diagnosed with autism, and she was overwhelmed—she didn’t know where to start, how to get services, or even who to talk to that would really understand. We sat down, talked things through, and figured out a plan together. I helped her navigate therapies, understand IEPs, and, most importantly, connect with other parents who had been in her shoes. Over time, I watched her go from feeling unsure to becoming an incredible advocate for her child. And now? She’s the one welcoming new parents and offering them the same support she once needed.
