Cinderella has always been a classic story. The modernization is just another version of it. I think it's great. Every story teller changes things a little and each Cinderella is slightly different than the original. We had Brandy play as Cinderella in one movie, and I thought that was an awesome movie too. Just because it's been "updated" doesn't detract from the quality of the story. The original was my favorite as a child and still is. But each time they make a new one, it's just wonderful. Drew Barrymore also played in a Cinderella like story in Ever After and that was also a different story than the original and showed more of the cruelty of the sisters, while Brandy's showed a humorous cruelty version. This new movie is just another version and I think it should be accepted as a good updated version. Because the other movies were portrayed in different times as well.

If we don't change the story with the times, some may not like it. Updating the movie gives new generations a chance to enjoy a story that might not have held their interest before. This Cinderella movie seems to have the same major themes as the original, including a stepmother who is not as nice to Cinderella as her own children, stepsister who don't like her, and Cinderella who is kind and sweet and gets to have a dream come true. So even though it's updated, it still portrays the major theme in the original story.

Also a difference in the Ever After movie is that one of the stepsisters wasn't as mean to Cinderella and she actually happened to be somewhat nice and sweet. that's already a major difference than the original. The storyline and time period in that movie may not have been "modernized' but the story was changed. So modernization of the story has already been done with the other movies. Each movie has had its own modernizing and updating, this one may just be a little bit more modernized. And I am sure in the future, we will have another movie more modern than all of these.

If you want to modernize old classic fairy tales, then write them, but call them by a different name. If you're going to "modernize" stories, then write them from scratch and give them their own spin, so that they might live on. Updating fairy tales is akin to trying to rewrite history. Be original! How many more variations do we really need on the old Cinderella story???

I'm just stuck in the year 1978, when my dad and step mom used to read this to me. "Fairy Tale" is the key word here-- I want to be taken away to a magical place and time that does not currently exist! I don't want to see "modernization" in my "fairy tales"!

The classics are gold. Hollywood is just running out of ideas. Be original!

Classics should be left alone. If you want to have a fairy tale "modernized" than create a new story with a strong character....as in Frozen. Leave Cinderella alone!

I love the idea of modernizing classics in order to inspire young girls. I want their heroes to be relatable and attainable.

I love that they made Cinderella more independent than the original because times have changed and more people can relate to it. Women are stronger and more independent than the female of the 1950's. I have watched the trailer and they still have the central theme and events of the original classic, but it's time to depict a stronger female who can stand up to what she wants. I think this is going to be an awesome movie and I can't wait to see it !

Why change a classic? There's no need to rewrite it.
