I don't know how true it is, but I have been told through a couple sources that a 45 SPF is as effective as it gets. A 75 SPF isn't any more effective than a 45, that it's just a marketing tool to make people think that a 75 SPF is better. Does anyone have any more reliable information about this?

I usually use SPF 30. There's no need to use an SPF higher than that. The key is to make sure you reapply often!

Sorry, mina77, but I disagree. My dermatologist wants me to use AT LEAST an SPF 50 daily. As a melanoma survivor, I am anxious to do whatever it takes to stay safe. I have found a Banana Boat product that does not smell like i'm headed to the beach, and I apply it every morning as my body lotion before I head to work. I reapply throughout the day, as well, if I am going to be outside.
