I registered to vote on my 18th birthday got my drivers license on my 16th birthday and could not wait until I got called for jury duty. I was so disappointed that it didn't happen until a couple of years ago at 36. It is our right and responsibility as Americans to serve.
If you have school age children, you can always get out of jury duty! State Law!
At first I was excited when I was called for jury duty, but I sat all day and just waited and waited. Second time I was called was a murder trial that went on for almost two weeks. Third time, the trial was a personal injury case where someone had fallen in a restaurant. Fourth time, it was an out of the way court house during the middle of a winter storm. I don't drive, so in almost all cases, it was a difficult commute. Now my response is "how do I get out of this". Never thought i would feel this way.
Getting picked for a jury twice turned out to provide 2 of the most remarkable experiences of my life. It informed me and changed me.
if i did not have an illness, serving for jury duty would not be an issue, but I have never been able to properly serve to this day.
I'm just wondering how many time must I serve it seems like Im the only one in my town who gets mailed that damn card.
the only time I've been called for jury duty, i was in college and doing my externship, so i couldn't go.
I've been called to jury duty every year for the past 28 years since turning 18. I wasn't even registered to vote the first 5 years. In the past 28 years my husband has only been called once. So much for random selection.
