I think between the ages of 13 and 15 are appropriate but I let my son have one at 12. I make sure to look at it once a week and the things I see and pictures that girls send him are shocking. I have told him whatever he puts on Facebook will follow him for the rest of his life. I also have told him never to forward the pictures of the girls and to erase them as soon as he gets them.

It really all depends on how the parents monitor... all the way up until the kid is 18. You should have their password to check whenever you want, and it wouldn't hurt for them to add you to their friends, as well. In general parents drop the ball on keeping their kids safe online, and it's a real shame.

No reason for a child under 16 to have fb.....Why worry about spying on them when all you have to do is tell them NO fb! ....kids need to communicate face to face with people or they'll never learn! Texting and fb chatting don't help!! .......Some of todays children are going to be running our Country one day and they can't even carry on a conversation without using a keypad.

I think that any child under the age of 18 needs to be monitored. You can never do enough to keep your kids safe online.

I do not think kids under 18 should be on a site like FB. Realistic? probably not. We live in a time where communication has shifted however many kids do not understand the significance of the internet or the long term effect it can have.

I don't think any child under the age of 15 should have a FB (what do they even need it for?) and if they are still under 18, should be monitored. That's just my opinion. Too many things I've seen from my friend's underage children who has FB pages that concerns me.

16-18 is a good age. Under that is too young. Even at the 16-18 age I think it should be monitored. You can never be safe enough with your children.

i said 16-18....some kids these days are MEAN...they make fan pages just to hate other kids...and I really don't want my child to be around such an environment. It would break my heart if my child is hurt in any way...also 16-18 SEEMS like a mature age to be letting a child use facebook....

I think the age 16 is about right to let them have an account , and they still should be monitored by their parents til at least 18 yrs. old.

I don't think anybody that's not an adult (18 or older) should have a Facebook account. I see too many things that are inappropriate and it keep kids from doing real things in life. I think you have to be 13 to have one, there are many parents who let kids under that age have one. They obviously have to lie about their age..so is that teaching them it's okay to lie? I'm sure some people would see me as uptight for thinking that way, but we have to protect and teach our children while their brains are not fully developed and can't make adult decisions.
