Depends a lot on the parents and how much time they have to "coach" the child

Even with the strict household rules our extended family uses, we still have to counsel the kids on some of the things they post. I can only imagine the damage teens with no supervision can do. Personally, I would prefer no one use computers until they are in high school so I really do not agree with anyone younger than that having a Facebook account.

I was so busy monitoring my kids facebook when he was 15+ now that he is 19 he closed it on his own! The kids give out to much information he would say i just gave my name and city and school. Well I can find you with less than that I o it for a living. To easy to stalk a kid.

Facebook like any other social network it a way for everyone to connect; rather they are old friends or complete strangers. And since you never know rather or not the profile information and picture are truthful this means that children could connect with stalkers pedifiles and killers and think its another child their own age. Its unsafe and putting our children at a high risk for a lot of danger. I honestly think the child should be of age that they understand the dangers involved with such networks which usually happens in the late teens.

18 YEARS OF AGE IN AMERICA YOUR CONSIDERED AN ADULT, YOUR MATURE, AND BY NOW YOUR IN AN AGE WHERE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. ALSO YOU HOLD RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS. NOW THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE WAS BETWEEN THE AGES 16-18. FOR SOMEONE OF THAT AGE TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE VIA INTERNET WOULD LEADTO "TEMTATION" DONT GET ME WRONG BUT THEIR IS A BETTER CHANCE FOR SOMEONEONE TO GET IN TO TROUBLE EVEN MORE RATHER IF YOU WERENT WITH ANY SOCIAL NETWORK AT AN AGE SO YOUNG. IM NOT SAYING FACEBOOK IS BAD, BUT THEIR COULD BE BAD PEOPLE TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUNG GIRLS/BOYS.

Facebook like other social media far too often opens the door to vulnerability. Observing the activity on the accounts of the children I know with FB accounts in high school tells me quickly which ones are bored, left home alone, desperate for contact with other people, and just plain needing attention. Some I know reveal far too personal information. Of course, I have also seen the ?college? students FB pages ? they too are frequently too revealing, but they are a little more discretionary in their ?friends? acceptance. Why encourage children (and I do mean children ? I hate the use of ?kids? when referring to children) to spend yet more time at a computer doing nothing truly productive. My youngest - now 25 -- discontinued use of FB within 6 months of graduating from college. The opinion expressed -- old -- childish -- enough.

I think it is up to the parents,,if they have time to check to see what they are doing and have enough trust in their child then i would say 16,,but age really dont matter because some children dont tell their real age anyway

I think 18 is an appropriate age because, some things on facebook is open to anyone who wants to a have a page, such a predators and criminals, and at this age they can determine right from wrong if ever being approached with the wrong circumstance. I think, at theis age they will be able to be responsible for themselves better than children under this age.

It would be different for everyone, depends on the child and the maturity at which they are,
